Information on romance scams and scammers.

I met a guy calling himself Peter Pearson on a gay dating website. He claimed he was in the US Army, an E-6 Staff Sergeant, deployed to Afghanistan. He used the email address: [email protected] and the phone number (334) 731-4422, which is a VOIP voice/SMS service number. We initially communicated via Google Hangouts and then moved to Telegram, where is User ID is: @Pears9. I carried on with this guy for 11 months. However, a few months in I began to have doubts when he wanted me to open a PayPal account for him. He kept GUSHING on about how much he loved me, which was another clue. He even called me on Google Hangouts and his voice was definitely NOT from Alabama.

Finally, 11 months later he asks me for the login information for my Capital One MasterCard. He said he wanted to pay it off as a Christmas gift. The card was maxed out, the full card number, expiration date and security code are NOT displayed on the website or mobile app. I decided to give it to him because I have a half-brother who works for Capital One in Salt Lake City, UT who told me he could retrieve the IP address and IMEI of the mobile device if he used the mobile app. Long story short . . . EVERY login was within a 20 mile radius of location in central New Jersey, with a few from very remote areas of California, who were, no doubt, his "agents" as he called them.

I contacted US Army CID to report this attempted fraud. "Peter" claimed he was born in and lived in Huntsville, AL and had been based at Redstone Arsenal for the past 13 years. He claimed he had an adopted 8-year old son, Caleb, who his mother takes care of while he's deployed. He also claimed to have 6 dogs. I sent all the information I had, including a date of birth, along with at least 20 photos of an obvious soldier to a CID officer at Redstone Arsenal. He called me back saying he'd done a thorough search and that there was no Peter Pearson that had ever been based at Redstone Arsenal. He ran a search on the images and reported that the soldier in question was well aware his photos had been used for both straight and gay online military romance scams for the past 8 years.

This same soldier's images have been used and reported elsewhere on Scamwarners, including here:

When I refused to participate in an obvious money laundering scheme, "Peter" threatened to put a bullet in my forehead when he returned to the states via text. Clearly, I ruined years of work for this scammer.

Here are some of the gay profiles that still exist as of this posting. He uses the User IDs: Pears9, Pear9 or Peterpearsonarms9 on most of them.

This guy has used the same photos for the past 7 or 8 years as is evidenced by the previous entries on Scamwarners.com. If this guy's photo shows up, terminate all communication with him. Best of luck!
