This romance scammer "Roberto James" was matched to me on Chemistry.com. I selected I was "interested" during a free communication weekend and he responded immediately. His email suggested we talk by personal email, (He uses the emails [email protected] and [email protected]) as the free weekend would end soon. Quickly we were chatting by yahoo messenger (Yahoo ID morehappynw1966...he also has a gmail ID). Before the evening was up he wanted to speak by phone, but I resisted as I was tired. He continued to plead and I finally relented. He gave his home phone as (502)276-4265 and cell phone as (502)230-1184. I questioned him about the numbers, because they were actually Louisville exchanges, not from the city he claimed to live. He stated it was due to his ex-wife. I noticed he had a distinctive Hispanic accent, despite saying his father was from KY and his mother was from Naples, Italy.

His story: He is the oldest of 4 children; Two sisters and 1 gay brother. Mother lives in Naples Italy and Roberto visits her twice a year. He invites me to go with him and his son in a few weeks to italy. I decline. He is an investor in real estate and other businesses. He has lived in Lexington, KY all his life. Four years ago he and his son came home from the movies to find his wife naked in bed with his best friend. However, he took his son and moved "far, far away" from his "ex" and the son (10 years old, entering 5th grade) has not seen his mother in 4 years. The wife has contacted Roberto's attorney and wants to file kidnapping charges, even though the divorce decree was for joint custody and weekend visitation for Roberto. Reportedly the ex found a hidden a hidden bank account with millions of dollars and the ex wants 2 million of it. His mother agrees to send him $5,000. During one point the son wakes up in the night vomiting blood and goes to the ER, but is fine the next day. Roberto also reports he may have to go to London to meet with oil investors. He invites me to go to London. I decline. Suddenly he learns he must transfer funds from his Australian bank account and then says he needs $3,000 from me. Of course I tell him "no", I don't have it. I test him and ask if he expects me to send him my mortgage payment money. He does!

I noticed early on this man is not from the area, but his English is nearly perfect, except for missing a few idioms and using a few imperfect verbs. I'm alarmed by how quickly he professes his love and intentions to marry. I'm also concerned if he is" on the run" using a alias because he does not show up in spokeo.com (never dreamed he'd be a scammer). I'm certain he is carrying on multiple conversations on yahoo messenger because of the delay in response. Of course he claims it is his modem and a connection problem, but I begin signing off, telling him he needs to tend to his son. Soon "Roberto" has fewer and fewer "connection problems'.
However he frequently asks me if I'm chatting with others. He always wants me to have my videocam on (his is broken of course) and asks me to show him my pets in the cam. That part I don't understand. He seemed very paranoid about what I was doing on the cam. If I laughed about something my pets were doing, he would accuse me of chatting with other men and demand proof of what my made me laugh. Perhaps that was an attempt to control me??? However he drops me fast when he realizes I won't give him money.

Luckily the only thing I'm out are the hours spent chatting. I worry about the other women from whom he could be stealing. I pray that this infomation can help protect others. Any other website I should post? He doesn't seem Nigerian or Russian. Is he a freelancer?

The scammer is also using the same pic on gay dating sites in Dubai under"execguy" with the phone # 970505530740 which seems to be out of Palestine (??).I found this from Tineye. Scammer also has a facebook page in the name of "Roberto James" using [email protected]. I really feel compassion for the man that had his pictures stolen and used in this way!

It's amazing how often this happens in the world of African scammers. "I caught my wife cheating on me with my best friend/brother/boss" is second only to "my wife died tragically" in the standard African scammer storyline.

In addition, the progression of the chat, some of the expressions, and the English tell me that this is an African scammer.

I'm also concerned if he is" on the run" using a alias because he does not show up in spokeo.com (never dreamed he'd be a scammer).

No worries about that. He is not on the run, because he has no son, no ex wife, and no fortune. You won't get a location from the header because he is using gmail, but it is almost certainly Africa or Malaysia (where a large cell of African romance scammers is active.)

If you haven't already, it is best to cut off all contact with this scammer immediately.

Where would the Hispanic accent come from?
When we talked on the phone, he clearly had that accent.

And yes, we parted ways very quickly when money entered the conversation. No man can sweet talk me out of MY money. If I'd met this scammer twenty five years ago it might be a different story........

As for the accent, there is a large Nigerian scammer community in Spain, too. He may have lived there for some time or is still there.

I used an email with a tracker to get his true location.

After months & months of communications with this man, I was taken for a VERY large sum of money. If I had seen this posting on this site prior to my communications with him, I would still own my home. I've lost everything due to this man!!

This scammer is also using the name Roberto Maggio - Still claiming to be in KY. His alternate email address is [email protected]. Cell number and story is the same as are the photo's. Was trolling on "OurTime.com" and Seniorpeoplemeet.net - His profile is down so I suspect someone reported him.

I SO wish the authorities would catch this guy before he takes anyone else to the cleaners like he did me. I know I'll never see it, but would be awesome to get my $$ back & get his butt in jail.
He is evil. At one time, he was trying to get more $$ out of me by saying one of his friends he met in Nigeria on business trip had been taken by the political gangs. Said they wanted ransom $$ or theyd kill him. Roberto actually sent me a pic of this guy sitting in a boat, hands tied behind his back & about 6 guys or more dressed in black with masks aiming machine guns to this guys head. The image is instilled in my mind forever. Extremely disturbing. Roberto is Evil to even send that image to anyone.
