Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hello,

I'm new here, and I would like to warn everybody about this guy, George Eristavi aka Givi, from Sumy, Ukraine. He sent me a message on Gayromeo and said that he was interested in wanting to know me. Before I responded back to him, I checked the net about male scammers from the Ukraine-no luck, all the sites talked about female scammers from there. So I decided to see what he was about since he was such a hot looking guy. Well, we had chatted back and forth via email, and with every email, he always had pics to send. So he suggested that we meet one day-he would come here in North Carolina where I live at and spend some vacation time with me. It sounded like a good idea, until he sent me this email:

My one and only love and fate Dee!

You can hardly imagine how difficult it was for me to find a way
for us to be together. It is unbelievable how many complications
and obstacles occurred when I tried to find out how to become
yours. The Ukrainian legislation makes it really hard.

But you should be sure in me and my true wish to connect my heart
with your heart! This is the only reason I want to be with you,
Dee.

Of course, we don't need to be in hurry. We have time to get know
each other better. But as for me, I'm sure that one minute of real
meeting will bring us more happiness and satisfaction than years
of writing each other. And I am sure that with my qualification
I'll be able to earn good money in any country, so I do not worry
for my professional future. But our private life is important now!

Currently I have savings of 650 USD. Soon I'll get my vacation pay
of around 120 USD - it will make total 720 USD. I hope you could
send me the rest of 1270 USD, because total sum I need for trip
is 1990 USD. I had no idea how it could be possible, but now I
found it out finally.

In our country there is a company that assists with international
funding. It is called Western union and it is presented in bank
Aval here in Sumy. They have branches all over the world. The
only problem with money transfers from abroad is that Ukrainian
authorities take them as pure profit and extract 30 percent
taxation from every money transfer.

As it was explained me in their office: only several groups of the
Ukrainian citizens are not obliged to pay the profit tax. Those
groups are state-supported ones like veterans of WWII, people with
hard disability, single mothers with more then 2 kids, etc.

I do not belong to any group with tax privileges. This is very
bad, because in order to receive 1270 USD from you, you will need
to send me 1820 USD, and our state will cut off 550 USD - just
"for nothing", as taxation fee. I assume it is pure robbery! But
I can not change the Ukrainian legislation.

I had almost given up, and I really thought I am losing you, my
beloved Dee! It was terrible condition of my brain, soul,
and body. I became strongly depressed by this confusing fact. I
can not put you in confusing situation. To give 550 USD for the
state of Ukraine is nonsense - I can not afford to disturb you to
give out your money for our corrupted government!

Well, to make the long story short finally after visiting several
state authorities I found out that my stepfather Mikhail has also
the right to receive money from another country without any
taxation. They don't tell me it in the bank, because they don't
care. So I had to visit other official places to find it out that
the liquidators (disaster-remediation workers) of Chernobyl
disaster don't pay the tax when they get support from abroad.

Then I had to tell about you to my family, because I am not out
to them and they had no idea about my love to you until now. I
told them that I want to visit my very good caring and supporting
American friend Dee, who cares about me deeply and wants
to see me in America very much during my vacation this year. They
were surprise, but they gave me permission to do it. So my
stepfather will assist us, my beloved Dee! And this is
really great, because we'll save 550 USD of taxation! Please send
the necessary sum of 1270 USD via Western union to his name:

Mikhail Lutsyk
Kovpaka Street 53, Apartment 201
Sumy, 40031, Ukraine

My beloved Dee, after you've sent the assistance let me know
the control number of the money transfer that you'll get on the
receipt. I'll also need your name spelled exactly as on that
receipt. As I have been told in the bank, in case I'll write even
one character wrong they will refuse to pay out the transfer. The
Ukrainian legislation is very strict as for the bank and tax
issues. The faster we order the travel package the sooner we'll
be together in America.

Please do not even think that I need this sum as gift from you! I
don't accept such gifts. I need it to be with you in America!
I'll work hard to pay back this debt to you as soon as possible,
because I am honest lad and I can't even think to mix love and
money ever. I simply need to be with you, to bring you my heart!

My dearest sweetheart, I have done my home work - it is your turn
now! I will be waiting for your assistance with the greatest hope
and foretaste of our happiness in America!

With all my love and sweetest kisses from Sumy!

Your loving Ukrainian life partner,
Givi

As you can see, he contradicts himself quite often. And to think that I almost fell for this guy. Well, after a few more emails from him, I decided to stop contacting him. Of course he got mad and said some very nasty things to me. I just had to let everybody know about this "handsome" but scheming man. His handle on Gayromeo is amGivi. Beware of him!

Welcome to ScamWarners Dee1979. Scammers are equal opportunity thieves and will steal from anyone they can get money from; Gay, Straight, Lesbian, Transgendered, Single, Married, Divorced, Widowe(r)(d). If they could scam a Martian, the would do it.

I am glad you have dropped contact and you realized this was a scam. It still hurts emotionally to be strung along like this. I am sorry this happened to you.

Hello and thank you Bubbles!

Yes, it does still kind of hurt me to think how I almost got duped by this hottie. And what makes it even worse, I showed the same email to the Gayromeo administration, and they did absolutely nothing about it! I'm not sure if they like scammers on their site or what, but that email was clear proof that the guy was a faker. I've dealt with the African and Phillipine scammers before, but this was my first time dealing with a Ukrainian scammer. But you're right, they don't discriminate who they scam at all. Even in the last email he sent me, to where he wasn't too pleasant, he still sent me a pic-I was very shocked at that lol.

Dee1979, I sympathize with you. I was also a recent target of a probable gay scam on Gay Romeo! Gay scammers are still under the radar so you won't find much about them on the Internet except for gay scammers in Ghana. I spent hours surfing for gay scams and just came up with a few tidbits. You'll be happy to know that your post on George Eristavi shows up on the top of the list on Google and ask.com when a search is done on his name or email address or even just stojar.com. If he's really stupid he won't bother to change his mantle or email address.

From my research what I do know is this, Gay Romeo is the number one site for gay scammers around the world. I have a suggestion. I know you contacted "Mother" on GR about George and nothing happened. I think you should send Mother a second email with your post on George to try and force her to start getting serious about removing what she refers to as "fakers" from the website.

In your post, you mentioned how George said some unpleasant things when you cottoned on to his scam. If it's not too personal, I think it would help to quote some of those unpleasant remarks on the scamwarners site so potential victims have an idea of what a gay scammer sounds like when his mask is dropped.

Again, my sympathy and good luck the next time around!

Hello and thank you Provocateur!

I'm so glad that the scumbag shows up on Google searches now. Knowing him, he probably won't change his handle or email address. There should be more exposure about gay scammers from other countries besides Ghana and the Philippines (which they're very big on doing that too). You're so right, apart from those 2 countries, Russian and Ukrainian gay scammers are pretty much nil for research on the net.

I think I will try to send "Mother" another email. I just don't understand why Gayromeo tells you to report a faker and it's so difficult for them to do anything about it. Maybe they just need a whole new administration. It's a shame that they allow so many scammers on their site-any other site (i.e. Outpersonals) would be more than obliged to remove these fakers. A friend of mine on Gayromeo even reported George to them, and he got the same results as I did. I'm definitely going to push harder the next go round before he lures another innocent person into his web of deceit.

I will try to find the emails where he talked very nasty to me-I was so pissed with him that I believe I may have deleted them. But if I do find at least one, I will surely post it up on here. I will also try to post his picture on here too to show what he "looks like".

Again, thank you so much for the refreshing news and the suggestions!

Hi Dee1979,

Because of the lack of info on gay romance scams on the web, I wrote some general info on a post on this site called GAY ROMANCE SCAMS UNDER THE RADAR/THE FULL SKINNY. Check it out, I think you might find it of interest.

Hello everybody,

Unfortunately, I did delete the last emails that he sent me, but I do have quite a few pictures that he sent me to share. You all will see why I almost fell for this guy- good looks, nice body, who could ask for more? He says he's 24 years old and a dental assistance(if this is really him).

It's a shame that he wasn't genuine, but that goes to show the old saying "Everything that looks good is not good for you", and in this case, the saying couldn't be more of the truth.

He probably isn't gay at all any more than our scammer "girls" are women. Just a scammer running the same old text and same methods to a bloke instead. Scammers are scammers and I think gender has little to do with it when you see the number of times scammers send messages to those supposedly same sex. Gay ,straight,TG or married, scammer Micheala/Micheal has no problems with sending trash to George, Georgina/or Georgina as George is now known as after her gender reassignment. They think all websites for contact are dating sites and don't know what networking is. See ExpatinBulgaria for many scammers trying to "get off "with a victim and any similar sites.

Hello Began

You're more than likely right about George-he may not be gay or bisexual at all. I know that the GLBT community in the Ukraine is not too much in visible site due to their fear of all the homophobia that goes on there, which he did tell me in one email that he sent me on how people react to GLBT folks there and how unsafe it is. I thought it was kind of strange for him to post his pics (if that's really him) on Gayromeo so openly like that and knowing how his community feels about it. And thanks for the info, I'm surely going to take a look at it.

Hey George!

I am sorry that more and more people are using countries from Eastern Europe to send mails with scam. Though, many people are good, I can imagine how bad you feel. I think you were smart to spot something suspicious.

One thing for other to know, that there are not problems with getting money from abroad in neither of the Eastern European countries, like Western Union and similar. Yes, they charge 3-4% usually. Still this is the fee that you are paying. The only case when you have to pay the tax is when you make a bank transfer. Then it would be possible, still the rate is within few percent, not 30-40%. I know for sure, I am Russian myself, and send sometimes money from the Netherlands to my mom :)

I agree that the overall income in these countries are rather small, and some help could necessary to make things come true. But! If things seem really true, why not to use a small tip -perhaps, it is better to offer that you pay a visit yourself. For most of the scamers that is a loosing options, so they would find excuse to cancel everything and, most likely, would vanish. :)

I hope that you recovered from that nasty situation, and good luck with searching for that special one.

Take care,

V

One more thing :)

And I know that it is hard for you to judge, looking at the pictures, but the guy on the pics doesn't look like Ukrainian. the person on the picture is more likely to be from Caucasus.

Lots of people with fake profiles download pictures from facebook and other social networks, so it is more than easy to send pictures with every mail. But then you can easily find their IP and locate where the mail was sent from. Could work, though not always. Another tip - ask for the webcam chat. Usually scammer would say that they don't have a webcam - well, you can ask to go to the Internet cafe - plenty of those in most of the countries.

Once again, sorry to hear your story, but we learn for future.

Take care,
V

Hello Angelmoon!

Thank you for that info. I wasn't too sure about the info he had gave me, but I'm sure glad that you clarified that for me. And you're right, he did tell me that his father was from that region and that he was born in Ukraine. I did at one time offered (just to see how real he was) to help him buy a ticket to here, but naturally, he declined that offer. I did indeed attempt to trace his IP address, and it did say that it was located in Ukraine (that's probably only one of the few times he was somewhat honest). Once again, thank you so much!
