I received a message from someone through my Beautiful People account. This person 'winked' at me. I logged on to BP to check the girl out and saw an average-looking 28-year-old, allegedly from Austin, Texas. The girl in the photo doesn't really meet the high physical standards of the site, and I was pretty sure she wasn't my type, but I 'winked' back anyway to see what would happen. After a couple of minutes, an email arrived.

So right away, I knew something was up, because Americans don't use English like this, even if they're illiterate. This is clearly West African English. The girl in the photo is white; not West African.

I played along with her a little, going from maybe 90% sure 'Caroline Dupri' was a scammer to 100%, which is when I decided to post her details here. The rest of the conversation before I cut it off is below. Hope it helps prevent some schmuck from getting scammed by this POS.

i am not on the gmail i am using yahoo chat and it not working with each other so it will be better you download yahoo messenger now

So I sent her an invitation to Gmail chat. She refused. She seemed to have this fixation with yahoo messenger and wouldn't consider chatting on gmail. Gmail seemed to be some kind of problem for her, which makes no sense. It's free and it would have taken her 2 minutes to sign up if she really was interested in talking with me. There's nothing to download and install.

I copied and pasted various sections of this spiel into Google before finally finding a match, here on Scamwarners. It looks like she is using the same spiel as a scammer named Allison Dominic viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2131&start=30

I'll try and paste a photo if someone can explain to me how to do that here.

What gave her away was...

1. Her completely un-American, un-Texan way of writing
2. Her insistence on having me sign up with Yahoo Messenger. What's up with that? Is Yahoo scam-friendly? Her refusal to use a different venue until she realized I was walking away was very suspicious.
3. She didn't seem interested in having a conversation, she was more concerned with trying to steer me onto Yahoo and getting me to answer specific questions that seemed like something a marketer would ask.

The scammer - who is a young man sitting in an African cyber café - wants to get you on chat because his English is bad. When chatting his mistakes might be "due to the speed he is typing and the common habit of abbreviating words in a chat". That said, Yahoo is a favourite email provider with African scammers, so much so that in Nigeria they are called Yahoo Boys.
