Information on romance scams and scammers.

I am currently baiting a suspected dating scammer by the name Sarah Barnes.
I will feel really bad if her story turns out to be true, but I think it's a scam because "she"
claims her mom and dad died in a car crash she was also in, in Nigeria and she woke up in the hospital
and they won't release her travel documents until she pays the hospital bill, which she is now asking me to help her pay via Western Union.

All the signs are there and it gets 100% score in my book for scamminess. However I sometimes wonder in the back of my mind what if she's telling the truth and is just VERY unlucky?

But then I remember that she always either ignored any requests for information about her dad and what company she says he works for. Zero information. How hard is it to tell me something like that? So That was the clincher for me.

Here's her email:

[email protected]

Also another person a few weeks before came through the same channels (MySpace message). I actually started falling for that first girl until the clues piled up too high, not least of which were the quirky broken grammar and sentence fragments.

That one is Tracy Lambert AKA [email protected] (that's 2 't's at the end).

I am getting 2 more now. They come every couple of weeks.

But my goal is not to avoid them. I want to fight them. How do we catch these criminals and get them to repay their debt to society? I am thinking of joining Infragard but not sure if that's what I need. Anyone know what I can do to be a fighter in this, and not just block them? I want to make a difference.

Welcome to Scamwarners. It's a standard scam scenario intended to play on your emotions. Nigeria, fatal car crash, and Western Union. Why weren't they insured, or why isn't she getting help from her country's consulate?
You haven't posted any of "her" emails, but I doubt that the style of English matches the name Sarah Barnes.
It won't be possible to get him arrested. There's nothing your local police can do, and Nigeria can't or won't deal with the problem.
You've helped by posting the scammer's details here.

Welcome mightyenigma! :D

You said it yourself: The story the "lady" is telling is right out of the "Primer for the Young and Eager Scammer, Written by His Gang Boss". If you want proof that "she" isn't the needle in a haystack, i.e. the only genuine damsel in distress amongst a million of scammers, just post one of her early emails - complete with header - and we can analyse it for you. Delete your own details.
You can even do it yourself: Run the header through
http://www.iptrackeronline.com/header.php
If you want to know how to get the header, read this:
http://www.abika.com/Reports/Samples/em ... rguide.htm

In the next step, take a line from the scammer's email and use it for a Google search - remember to put the line between quotation marks. If there is no hit, take another line. Sooner or later you will find one that has dozens of hits because it has been either copied from a love poems website or used other scams.

As to your baiting, good on you! Are you doing it in a safe way? If you don't know what I mean, please send me a PM.
