I've been writing to a man from morocco via facebook for a few months now. we are both interested in writing and as it is his birthday soon i offered to send him an english book. so he gave me his address and when i searched under google maps for the address he gave me i couldn't find it. does that mean he has given me a false address? should all addresses be registered and traceable?

Google maps does not necessarily include all existing addresses, especially where content may be harder to come by. Or sometimes even in rural areas in the US or UK! So this by itself is not necessarily evidence of fraudulent activity.

Edit: also I'm not quite sure why he would give you a fake address if he really wanted to receive a small gift from you. From the small amount of information you've provided this sounds like a reasonable kind of interaction. If he were a scammer operating from an entirely different place, it seems to me he would have given you an address that could be found in google - most scammers find their supposed addresses this way.

If he was asking you for money, then I would be much more inclined to think of this as a scam.

Thanks for your response Gus. All I can say is that after my experience I am less trusting and check every little detail /
