Here is a transcript of a chat via Yahoo Messenger just recently. Up to this point it was a rapport building exercise but then got more serious.
Cynthia Donovan:You are requesting a temporary leave for Cynthia Donovan who is currently serving at 28 regiment in Afghanistan
Cynthia Donovan:but so many terrible things are happening here everyday
Arutha:I don't want you harmed in any way. You know that.
Cynthia Donovan:yes i know
Arutha:Who do I send the email to.
Cynthia Donovan:[email protected] (A bit suspicious by now, what military has a Dot Com address)
Arutha:Who do I address it to.
Cynthia Donovan:General
Arutha:General who?
Cynthia Donovan:General A.J
Arutha:What is the Subject Heading
Cynthia Donovan:Request temporay leave for Sgt. Cynthia Donovan
Arutha:What is the correct way to address this General?
Cynthia Donovan:Dear General A.J
Arutha:No full name?
Cynthia Donovan:just write it that way (The love appears to be gone about now.)
To cut a long story short I received a reply email from Major General Bradshaw (OBE) requesting information about me, proof of knowing the scammer & money for logistics.
Here is my reply to the scammer:
Hi Cynthia or whoever you really are,
I had a response from AJ Bradshaw (OBE) Major General (in-charge of officers on deployment) and the leave request has been initiated. I have to give him your military identification number for deployment to prove that we know each other and that we are both committed .
I have to provide them with my full name, address and phone number for verification from their Sergent.
So we want you to forward it to us to confirm that you truly know each other. Also, the leave request is going to incur some charges to cover logistics, and it will be refundable back to you immediately we confirmed the arrival of sgt Cynthia Donovan at your destination. Knowing fully well that communication will be between the United States Army and British Army. So let us have the above number and we shall confirm the leave request.
Since their was a request for money I checked this out on a great site I have used before and found this viewtopic.php?f=26&t=20838.
This is now ended. I will be sending my recorded transcripts of our conversations & emails to the above address. They can use it as evidence that these scams are becoming more and more prevalent.
ByeX( angryX( angryX( angry=; talk to the hand
The scammer took me for a fool but I have been a computer tech for more than 30 years and not an idiot. Things didn't ring true, especially when they ask for money and details.
I have joined your site to battle these people for those not so well informed.
The research they had done was good, Regiment & Deployment were correct & everything but you guys saved me. Thank You.
