Last nite a person showed up on my Skype claiming to be a general fr Afghanistan. How would he have found me? I could just tell by the grammar and conversation it was not. My first thoughts were this is a scam and sure enuf, the more googling I do, the more I find. Scams of people claiming to be military officials scamming women out of money. His third question, was, how is hubby? And that he is recently divorced looking to turn his life around.. Really??? Argh... , and how many lonely women jump at this attention? I asked him how he found me, and he said , oh just looking for new friends. The picture he used on Skype is the same one I found when googling this general. Just creepy...

Thanks for replying Justin. My daughter set up this Skype up 2 years ago when she went overseas, and we never did use it. What worries me is that until now, I had never been contacted, so never noticed that she had my full name, town I live in and my email address, not the hotmail. I've since deleted it, but that worries me. I put the Skype name she gave me in google like you said , but I only see something to create my own habbo?!
No info about me. My Skype settings are set to not Allow anyone , so how do they find you? And again tonite, I have another person wanting me to add them.
I have to say the first thing he asked me, after how are you,,, was, so tell me about your country and it's economy.. Well, he blew it right there, I thought , why on earth would a high ranking general of the USA be asking me what my country was like, which was listed as Canada. He was also seemed to want to change the subject once he saw that i knew so much about afghanistan. Can u report this somewhere to let the real General know, or does it happen so often, that not necessary?

Sadly, it is happening so often now that the US military is fully aware of the scam activity. The problem is, the scammers are operating in other countries, so they just can't do much about it.

The new person wanting you to add him is probably the same scammer under a new identity.

In reality, there is no reason to be unduly concerned. Just ignore and block these scammers, and you will be fine.

In Skype you can just do random searches. For instance you can search "Jane" and browse the results. Depending on what information you have on your Skype profile he could get enough to decide you may be a potential target. It's a shot in the dark for the scammer but no more so than sending out a bunch of emails to random people. That was probably his angle asking about your "hubby" to figure out if your married.

If you not using Skype just edit out the info then delete the application from your computer.

Thank you very much for your responses These skammers are sure crafty. Being contacted by a Brigadier General was quite flattering. Thank goodness I had enough sense to read between his lines.... Thank you again. Great site. I'm so glad I found you.
