Hi I think I may have been scammed after becoming suspious then reading the stories on here
I was contacted via a dating website by a CAPTAIN THOMAS MICHAEL claiming to be in afgahanistan serving in the british army, from the start he was very full on, we started communicating via yahoo messanger where over a period of a week he has confessed his undying love to me,asked me to marry him etc we have exchanged pictures and chatted about our families etc, then he said he wanted to meet me but someone had to ask for leave for him so gave me the name of his General who was called BRYANT COLE,
I emailed this supposed general on a yahoo.co.uk email address which statrted to spark suspions when i was told that for insurance purposes there would be a fee, when i confronted said thomas michael about this saying I couldnt afford it etc the reply i got was ' I hope the issue of money wont break us up'. His english doesnt seem that good for a Captain in the British army! after researching on the net im sure its a scam but would like your opionons, I have sent him a message saying I know its a scam and thats it but how can you tell if it is or isnt??? this could be a genuine guy (but i doubt it!) then I shall feel really bad for accusing him,

what do I do now? how can I tell if hes geniune or not??? oh and he makes excuses as to why i cant have his mail address.
Thankyou in advance i feel very violated at giving my details online and sending picutes and details of my family when it could be a scam!!

Hi shellybean and welcome to ScamWarners.

It's 100% a scam. Soldiers do not have other people request their leave, especially not people that have no relationship with them. Also they do not have to pay and fees or insurance for their leave. Finally a soldier would not be using a Yahoo email address for communications.

Well done on bein suspicious and investigating what you have been told. Could I ask that you post the email address used by the 'General' and also the soldiers yahoo ID, so that others who he might be scamming can find them.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Your suspicion is correct and it is a scam!
If you have not already done so, it would be a good idea to look at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6528 and the scam format will become clearer.

Also the thread of viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12191 shows more military type scams.
