Welcome to ScamWarners shellybean and thank you for trying to help. We need more information than what you have furnished.

Having a name and saying the person is from Nigeria is not proof of a scam.

Captain Thomas Michael may actually be a real Captain.

What we need is the email address, the headers you checked and the first emails you received. Please see here for more information: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3561

Without the information, this post will be deleted.

Top of the hour to you.

Your email was received and the points noted .First i will like to elaborate more on the transit leave of absence from duty .The leave is always a very rare aspect of the army especially when soldiers are deployed on mission .The army do not usually make approval for such when a mission is ongoing and our aims must be achieved .
The transit leave of absent co.notes all aspect of the soldiers status and his contribution so far that may warrant such approval .Stipulated refundable charges may warrant as a result of insurance policy and the guarantee of the soldiers safety by the spouse or family requesting for leave on behalf of the soldier .The fund charged will be refunded immediately we receive a GREEN FLAG of the soldiers arrival to destination. The leave is termed as FREE, but due to some unruly soldiers who have access to such a rare opportunity, many have abuse this privilege. This is more reason why the insurance policy fee for guarantee is now intensive and important to be obliged with.
processing will commence without delay, after the approval. letter for leave request is yet to be approved but by next 24hours i will get to you ,to give you the feed back.kindly reply my mail as soon as u get it

Shellybean,

There is absolutely no doubt. This is 100% romance scam.

I apologize for the confusion. Bubbles was not suggesting that you were in contact with a real American soldier in Nigeria. He simply meant that if we didn't require proof of scam, anyone could come along, post the real name of a person (for example, an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend), and accuse them of being a scammer. Posting the header and contents of an email helps to establish that you were indeed in contact with a scammer using that name and email address--and the email itself helps others because scammers often reuse the same scripts on other victims.

As far as the UK IP's go, those IP's are implicated in several other scams (just google the first one), suggesting the IP may be linked to a proxy or vpn server. Those IP's do not make this person real. The email itself tells me with absolutely no room for doubt-that was written by an African scammer.
