Information on romance scams and scammers.

I received a message from Plenty Of Fish POF.com - dating site I have been on for a while. While I have met 2 men in person for coffee, I got a message and looked at the guy's profile and pictures. [email protected]
His name, Alfred Davids.
After he tried romancing me, he told me he was going to Ghana for work, even sent me in email his itinerary and flight information. However.....he said he was from Brooklyn, and his IP on his email (open the headers on your emails and you'll get that info) was from California.
I played along with his scam until he finally gave me his address - I could find NO Alfred Davids on google or anywhere on the net. Once he gave me his Brooklyn Address, I did indeed find Alfred Davids in Brooklyn. I am certain that this is NOT the man that sent me the pictures, had the profile and was sending me Instant messages. He never emailed me except for that flight itinerary. He was never online at night. He never answered specific questions. But I knew I had to get his address from him.
He said on his trip, his laptop and camera and cell phone were stolen from his luggage. His job in Ghana as a civil engineer was to help build new roads. I asked what company he worked for and was going to work with. He gave me that info (He had no clue HE was the sucker) and again when I googled I found neither company. He asked me where I lived so that he could order a new phone and laptop and camera at my local Walmart and could I pick it up and ship it to him.
I asked what hotel he was staying at - he told me - I googled and called - no Alfred Davids registered (of course!)
That is how I got his "brooklyn address"
He then said he is going to buy shoes for people in ghana and have them sent to my house so I can fed ex them with the laptop .
That's when I turned the tables on him. I told him now that I have the full name and address of the person's identity he is using, and the copy of his 'flight itinerary' with the Ip address and header information, and the messages saved he sent me with his 'story' .....that I will NOT receive anything from him, knowing that you are NOT the man in Brooklyn at all. I told him I knew he was going to use stolen credit card information to try to ship packages to my house for me to spend the money to fed ex them to Ghana and it's one of the oldest scams in the book.
I also told him that - and did indeed - report all of this info to ic3.gov
I also told him that I hope they contact the real person that lives in Brooklyn so that he knows that someone is using his name and address to scam other people, and God only knows whose pictures he used to post on the dating site.
I told him it was in his best interest not to contact me anymore.
This morning he did.....and i said go ahead, keep contacting me, it just gives me more ammunition to forward so that you can more easily be found. I think that is the last I will hear from him.
I also saved his pictures....it's sad that nonsuspecting people are having their photos copied from facebook or dating sites and others are using them for their scams. I'd like to know if my name, address, and pictures are floating around on the web while some person across the world is scamming people making them think they are really talking to me.
Is there a place here where I can post photos that this scammer used?

I found where his photo came from. I Google searched images......and the same photo of him on his Harley is on Tripadvisor- Trip WOW .......a website where you can make slides shows of your trips. Unsure how the webcam images he sent were done tho - we obvious he wasn't typing and he said his mic wasn't working. And pictures of him 'posing' in the gym were on the dating site too. Who knows how these scammers get these pictures and videos or if the people who are supposedly in your webcam images are sent as an upload that the scammer has, from using the person's webcam 'from behind the back door' using remote access into someone's computer without their knowledge.
Lock all your remote access settings in your computer so people can't get into your computer and get into your files and move things around on your desktop. Anyone can get software to learn how to do that.

Google images is a good way to find out if the pictures you are being sent are shown anywhere else on the web. It's also a good way to see if YOUR Pictures have been taking and are shown elsewhere on the web.

BE SAFE!

Welcome judalla,
Glad to hear you were not scammed by this fraudster and well done for finding the source of his photos. If you'd like to post more of them, check out this link for more info: Post scammer photos

Please don't assume that he will stop contacting you - unfortunately scammers are very good at twisting people's emotions, trying many different angles (sometimes even pretending to give up scamming), in the hope to get you to pay something. It's essential that you stop corresponding with him - keep in mind you are dealing with a serious, anonymous criminal who has your personal details.
