My mother is talking to this man, he claims to be fromUK, has a son 9 years old, who lives with his mother in Bulgaria. He claims to be coming to the USA April 19 to marry my mother (66). If he's real, I will apologize for doubting her faith, however my stand is any man that asks for money is not "real". Supposedly his son became "ill in the heart", he claims to have already sent his mother 4,000gbp to help pay for the surgery, and needs a meesly $250 usd from my mother to help. He calls him "our son". Convinced her to go look for them a house, and he will purchase when he comes here. I cannot get through to her. I have always had her passwords for email and yahoo and whatever because she is not computer savvy. I found emails and their yahoo conversations and was astonished. I started emailing her letting her know I was very dissapointed that she is falling for this. He is the third. The first was from Arizona, working in Nigeria, and I didnt find out until after so I do not know what his excuse was, but I know she sent at least $100 to him in Africa. Why it didnt dawn on her that she was addressing the Western Union to another person, I have no clue. The second found her on FaceBook, and they were not "friends" but were messaging back and forth, he claimed to love her as well, had an adult daughter, then went to fulfill a contract, he was a computer programmer, in you guessed it Nigeria, several days after they "arrived" he and his daughter were mugged on the streets, they took a bat to her knees and she needed surgery to walk, please send $1800. LOL I happened to catch that one, and told her ANY man that asks for money is not worth your time. She told him no, deleted him and that was it. Now number 3. I have tried googling his name, his mothers name the sons name, I am not getting anywhere. Can you help me find other resources to check into him or anyone else out there experience the same ???

Thank you, I know he has convinced her to send $250 on Monday, she has to wait till Monday because the loan place isnt open on sunday!

Thank you

Welcome to Scamwarners, stephfsch2012!
I can tell straight away from his use of two last names for his name that this is a scammer.
To prove this to your Mother - you said that you have access to her emails - get the headers of one of his messages and find out where the messages are being sent from. Instructions are in my sig below.

I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I have absolutely no doubt this is a scammer.

Unfortunately, the situation you describe is not uncommon. Your mother has paid money, and now she is being targeted as a good victim. In reality, there is a pretty good chance that one or both of her later "loves" are the first scammer using a new identity. It is very common for a scammer to approach again under a new identity once he has found a paying victim.

The situation is difficult with any family member, but it tends to be even worse when the victim is a parent, because many parents have a hard time dealing with making a mistake of this kind in front of their children. Sometimes, you can help the situation by asking someone else to talk to your parent--preferably someone your parent accepts as an authority or as an adviser--such as a pastor at her church or a local police officer.

Remember when you talk to her that it is best not to seem judgmental, and not to make her feel like a fool, or she will probably hold on to the fairy tale even more. She is obviously lonely, and she needs to feel loved and needed. The scammer plays on those needs. He pours on the romance, saying everything she is longing to hear. He makes her feel special and loved, and uses the fictional child to make her feel needed.

As for evidence? As Helen said, try to get the headers and an IP address. Google his name, email address, any phone numbers he provided (note, if he gave her a 44-70 phone number, that is a redirect phone number, and the calls can be forwarded anywhere. These numbers are most often used by scammers pretending to bin in UK when they are really in Africa.) If he gave a physical address, google it, and check it out on Google maps. Use both tineye and google to search for his photos. Also--and this is key--pick several distinctive lines from his email messages and even his profile, and google them, in quotes. These searches can often lead you straight to the evidence you need.

If you are unable to get enough information, we can have your mother contacted by a warner--we will just need more info, such as one of his early letters, before we are able to do the warning.

HOLY COW!!! Thats him! I forwarded her your other topic from on here, I really hope she reads it. I was just hitting a block, the name was so generic I couldnt find anything. I can get the header easily, I will read the post next.
You are right no matter what I had said so far it was just pushing her closer to him, I emailed him myself, asked him who are you? he just replied that who i was was none of my business, and that I needed to stay out of my mothers affairs she is a grown woman and was old enough to make her own decisions.

Well she WAS convinced. He contacted her was very ugly called her names. Then emailed again said he was sorry he was just upset she called him a scammer. Then proceeded to tell her your daughter is a liar!! Told her to have me email him the pictures. I told her no I'm not doing that nor telling him where I found the pictures do he cannot come on here and harass other victims. I am do frustrated right now. She seems to be wavering now.

Thank you, I lost the link to this website and couldnt find the site again! I had to go back into her mail and find where I had sent her the link to prove it to her. Finally she confronted him told him she knew he was a scammer and he got very ugly and violent with her thru email. Cussed her out left and right. I am afraid she is at it again though. Met another one too . I am going to make that a new thread today. I'll post the pictures he's sent her and the header all in one post. I hadnt been able to find any kind of proof that hes anything other than what he says until a small ray of light came through. Thanks for your help. I wonder if these scammers have their own website similar to this where they post peoples email addresses or IM names saying "easy mark" ?

Hi stephfsch2012, I am glad you found us again.

Please do post up the new information you have.

Confronting scammers does not get a confession of scamming from him. He will get ugly hoping the victim will give in and pay.. Occasionally scammers will admit to scamming IF they think it will further their cause.

Let us know how we can help you in this.

Rest in Peace 24 June 2015.
