Information on romance scams and scammers.

I met "someone" on ProfessionalFreeandSingle. He was supposed to be a Colonel in the US army in Afghanistan. We started emailing and then chatted on Skype IM. He has not asked me for money but the things that alerted me were that he often said " I will" when he should have said "I would", he rang me once, when it was not convenient for me to talk so the conversation was very brief but he sounded younger than he was supposed to be and his accent did not seem right. I asked him about his turn of phrase but he never answered.
I tried googling him and came up with nothing at first but yesterday I found out that his email address [email protected] was a verified spammer address originating in Ghana. I have told him I've sussed him out but not told him how.

What really concerns me is who the photos he sent me belong to, if that person is alive and well, I'd like them to be informed. I have emailed the FBI which may sound a bit extreme but I think it's important to do what we can to stop these people who are quite clever, but in this case, not clever enough. I'd appreciate help in posting the relevant information, thanks

PS the dating site does not appear to have a place to report scammers. The only other person I spoke to there may have been a scammer as well although I haven't been able to confirm that.

Hello vivdora!

I'm sorry to hear you were targeted by the scammer but glad you got suspicious. The best thing you can do is post the scammers information here like his name he's using, email address and first couple emails to you. This will help other potential victims find the site if they search those details.

As far as the pictures he stole from the internet there is nothing that can be done. There is no way to stop the scammer or other scammers from using the pictures. The genie is our of the bottle as they say it's the risk you take posting pictures of yourself on the Internet. More than likely the real person has no idea and since nothing can be done to stop the use ingnorance is bliss.
