100% SCAM.

There are several things that tell us when someone is a scammer. I can usually tell you just from the English, without having to search any further, because Africans make routinely make very specific mistakes in English that tell us they are not American. These mistakes are not just typographical errors--they are specific types of mistakes that an American would not make.

You can use both google and tineye to search for a photo and see if it is used elsewhere. Much of the information Grunt posts with information on other profiles is the result of those kinds of searches, or email address searches.

Many times, scammers copy or reuse profiles and letters, so searching for lines from them (in quotation marks) can tell you if a profile is copied. If so, the profile is almost certainly fake.

Sometimes, mistakes in the profile itself will tell us it is fake. For example, a scammer will get the hair color, eye color, age, or ethnicity wrong, because he doesn't pay attention to the pictures, or can't tell the difference himself. Sometimes the age is way off in the profile.

In this scammer's profile, the English tells me beyond a doubt that he is a scammer, but even if you can't tell from the English, he made one very big and easy to prove mistake.

He claims his age is 42 on the profile. The photo is clearly of a much younger man. In this case, it is very easy to check the facts.

The 25-year-old soldier from Hiawatha, Iowa, was awarded the Medal of Honor in November.

So he was 25 years old less than 2 years ago. That means, depending on when his birthday is, he is 26 or 27 now. That alone is enough to confirm absolutely that this is a scammer, not the real soldier.
