Hi befree22,

The photos are not of the actual scammer. The scammer has stolen the photos from a real person whose name we do not want to post. The scammer has set up more than one profile and used a similar name and photos from the same person.

Truthfully, real soldiers do not have time to be posting their photos on dating sites. They have real jobs to do and are in training or in harms way. They are not to be soliciting relationships on dating sites.

A safe rule of thumb is that if there is a profile of a soldier on a dating site, it is a scammer. I would encourage you to use this rule of thumb in your quest for a relationship. I trust you read what Dotti posted here: viewtopic.php?p=99002#p99002

Dotti wrote:There are several things that tell us when someone is a scammer. I can usually tell you just from the English, without having to search any further, because Africans make routinely make very specific mistakes in English that tell us they are not American. These mistakes are not just typographical errors--they are specific types of mistakes that an American would not make.

You can use both google and tineye to search for a photo and see if it is used elsewhere. Much of the information Grunt posts with information on other profiles is the result of those kinds of searches, or email address searches.

Many times, scammers copy or reuse profiles and letters, so searching for lines from them (in quotation marks) can tell you if a profile is copied. If so, the profile is almost certainly fake.

Sometimes, mistakes in the profile itself will tell us it is fake. For example, a scammer will get the hair color, eye color, age, or ethnicity wrong, because he doesn't pay attention to the pictures, or can't tell the difference himself. Sometimes the age is way off in the profile.

Yes, it's the same soldier, and both are fake. The real soldier received a very important medal that is almost never given out to a living soldier, so there were lots of news articles about him, with multiple photos of him posted on the internet. A tineye search of the 2nd photo leads to several more articles about him, including other photos that are probably being used in fake profiles.

But, once again, the age alone (this scammer is claiming to be 47, almost twice the real man's age) proves absolutely that this is a scam profile. (The scammer also got his eye color wrong)--and of course he has the actual person's name wrong too.
