Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hallo everyone,
I was silent for a while...

week ago I was at the police ... we've had a nice talk, they know about scammers, but can't really do much...
the profile of David James Pirlo was in a meanwhie deleted from badoo, so who knows ... might be my action helped it...
I was warned about possible Viruses that I could get thanks to Fotos I received ... so I installed fresh Antivirus
I started to go off-line as soon as I did not have to be online ... not knowing much about hackers ... but in the movies they can get in as soon as the computer is in the net

so ... I was not anymore answering Mails
... but I started picking up phonecalls ... so they at least have some costs
and I also wanted to hear what is coming next...

and here it is

So … news … theguy keeps on calling me ... first continuing with his story about the accident ...
then came also the questions for further funds ... as expected ... costs in the hospital
...he has no insurance ... bla bla bla ... if someone is interested in the conversation ... can post it here ...

and now came the story … which I can not really follow, but they surely try to improvise … no guidelines anymore … or they just try to switch in program, to be able to take another handbook …
The guy, who till now played David James Pirlo tries to contact me on Facebook as Shola Olumide Faseke
http://www.facebook.com/shola.faseke
the same voice keeps on calling me and telling … I lied to you, I am sorry, I am black, I am the guy you tries to contact you on FB … so I told to him … whatever colour you have … one thing I know for sure … you have no nigerian accent ...

I am not replying now to anything ... would not pick up the phonecalls ... or should I still keep on increasing their costs 8) ... I gues there is no danger for me, because I am not connected to the net with my old fashioned handy

I wish you all a very nice day

It is not uncommon for scammers to "confess" when they know there is no way you will believe their fake character any longer. It's just another set of lies.

Usually the scammer will claim that he tried to scam you because he was poor and desperate, but he really loves you now and doesn't want to hurt you, and he doesn't want to scam you or anyone else. He will try to remain in contact with you, pretending he is not scamming any more (he is undoubtedly still scamming, just under different names). Then weeks to months later, he will once again start asking for money--this time he will be claiming that he is desperately poor because he quit scamming, and if you don't help him he will either die or have to start scamming again. Sadly, scammers have used this tactic to get more money from victims many times.

It's harder for a victim to fully heal when the scammer is still playing these games, so it is best to not allow any contact at this point in time.

If you are still on dating or social networking sites, don't be surprised if you are approached by more scammers, because he will likely share your information with other scammers or try again himself using a new character.

While it's always good to keep your antivirus up to date, I would not worry too much about hackers. This type of scammer is typically NOT a skilled hacker--if he was, he would be making much more money hacking than he is scamming. In addition, .jpg files (assuming there is no other extension on the filename) are not going to be carrying a virus.
