Don't know for sure where this originates but pretty sure who ever I have spoken to and messaged is in Nigeria. Its an elaborate scam. I have checked IP addresses and it spans the globe (Ireland, the US, Nigeria, and Russia). I won't tell you how much money I have given away as its embarrassing but have to tell someone so scamwarners seems like a good place to start. Police, of course, can do nothing.

Thank-you for publishing the email address because others will be alerted in future. The IP numbers pointing to the different countries would be due to a proxy server being used which hides the origin. If you see NNFMP in any of the email headers, that is (not always but usually) a sign of a fraudulant sender. Gives me no joy to say the police do not place high priorities on internet scams. With the graft and corruption of plague proportions in Africa, police will take no action against scammers there either, except on the odd occasion.
I'm sorry the scammer has wasted your time.
