I have had a leave Request Form in my e-mail like that too, signed by Lt Col Robert Friedman... Who was in Afghanistan first and then in Iraq... That Leave Request costs a lot of money and I'm not going to pay that! To no one.


After I had filled it out and sent back, I had this email:

I just want to make sure you are aware--I'm not confident that you are aware of the implications of the leave request. The cost of the leave request doesn't matter--whether you are told it will cost 50 cents or 5,000 dollars, it is fake, and the person you are in contact with is a scammer. Nobody from outside the military can request leave for a soldier. The military does not allow civilians to make requests for soldiers. The moment you are asked to submit any form to the military by someone you met online, you can be absolutely certain that he not a soldier, but is in fact a scamming thief.

The person calling himself Mark Shelly is an African scammer, not an American soldier. The person calling himself Lt Col Robert Friedman is either the same person, or another scammer in the same group. The English confirms that you are dealing with African scammers. There may be a real Lt Col Robert Friedman, but if there is, he is not involved in this in any way. Nobody you have been in contact with is real.

The best thing you can do right now is drop all correspondence with all of these people. Block them from your messenger, filter out their emails, and don't take their phone calls. Then, if you want to help others, post the full details of your scammers--all email addresses used, phone numbers, and their letters to you.
