Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hi:

I was contacted by instant messenger in my personal e-mail last night. The person sent me a message saying that they had read my message here ( on this site ) and although I did not ask questions on how they found me, I answered their question and my reply was the same as I posted on this site originally.

My screen name in my personal mail is not the same as the one I use here nor is my e-mail so, i am wondering how they found me????

Hope this helps in case it happens to anyone else.

Assuming your personal email is the one you used with your scammer (or you shared enough personal information for him to get it), it is probably another fake profile by your scammer or someone he shared your information with (or sold it to).

Ultimately, the goal may have been to (a) convince you that one of his characters is real (b) start a recovery scam, in which the scammer or one of his accomplices pretends to be someone who can help you get the scammers arrested, or (c) simply to confirm that you are the one who posted him.

There are a few other possibilities, but the above are the most likely.

Either way, the safest thing to do is to ignore approaches like that.
