I met Chris Purple on another dating site and found out the IP address he is using is "near Phoenix, AZ". He says he is currently in Afghanistan and I'm baffled.

" ... I was the deployed to Iraq and now redeployed to Afghanistan this year ..."

" ... Now i will be going for my vacation leave..i don't wanna come back here..i need to settle down when i get out of here...That why have got to retire and hopefully i will set up an Engineering Company of my own.My friend met his wife on internet and he was the one that encourage me to search for the woman i can love ... "

" ... Sometimes when my friends here go for an Early leave to be with there family and loved ones for Holidays, i cry and cry a lots, cos i have no one to Request the Early Leave for me, Cox if i have someone that can do that for me i can have a early leave and that's so much something i would love to have to be with that special person ... Welcome lilsweeby.
IP addresses are only part of the evidence that can be used to identify scammers.
In this particular case the story is entirely invented, I'm afraid.

Have a look at this link which discusses military scams in general:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6527

In particular, "An outside person can not apply for leave for someone in the US military. Only the soldier can apply, through official military channels.".
Unfortunately he is trying to manipulate you using a false story about leave requests.

He sent pictures and I'm not sure if they are real. If I don't download them, it is gone on his next reply. I also noticed that there are youtube videos attached to all his emails. After reading other related posts, I noticed that all communication starts with "how was your night?" All texts from him and emails started like this. Why is that? Are these just coincidences or is it part of the script?

The greetings that African scammers naturally use on a day to day basis stand out like a sore thumb, so when they find a greeting that they know is normal they'll keep repeating it.

If you get a good one, he can handle that and write the way an American would. Most say they have English connections to attempt to explain why they write and sound funny.

Once the person has been found to be a scammer nothing is going to make him genuine. He's been found out. He'll set up a new mailbox and identity and try to learn from his mistakes, but he'll carry on with current victims who haven't been alerted to him.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

I really thought I was being careful. I know dating sites are iffy so I researched severThanksal sites on Chris, even a military site. But he scammed me too! After reading the postings, I saw very familiar quotes, emails, texts, etc. Thanks to you, I found out just in time, that he is not real! :D I will definitely check this site before other text and email dates!
