[email protected](Sadly) I've been communicating with this scammer for a couple of months, and I believed his story for a while, but found it strange that he was so evasive when I would ask questions. He claimed to work in construction and be in the UK at the moment negotiating a big deal. Then, a couple of weeks ago when he was supposed to be on his way back, he claimed to be in Benin (neighbouring Nigeria), to finalize the deal, as that's where the construction project would occur.
As the tips on this site state, he was very quick to profess love (to which I said I would not do until I met him), he did want to call me Honey or Angel or the like very quickly, and the mails/chats were rarely about me.
When I finally started to let my guard down, he told me he'd be home in two weeks. At the end of those two weeks, the talk of money started, and when I questioned things about his story (like, how could an established business man plan to conduct business in a country without even looking up which credit cards were accepted), he got cranky and even nasty.
He didn't actually get to the point of asking for money, but I notice that his profile showed that he logged in more frequently once my questions annoyed him. And, he suddenly found the money he was looking for and had a new reduced sum. He didn't respond to my last message where I just wished him luck.
The mention of a Basic Travel Allowance is what brought me to this site, and I'm very thankful to put this experience behind me. Even though he got only time from me, I still feel quite cheated.
Should I report this user to Lavalife? I was about to do it even without having found the picture turn up, and I'd love to save someone else from corresponding with this guy if possible.

My company is head quarterd in Europe and I bank with Hsbc.
I was told the options I have is to open an account over here before they can wire me funds...They have to be sure.. or travel somewhere and use my card.If I can't pick up my check before the deadline that is another story entirely.

It is HSBC policy not to wire money till they can verify my true identity;that is why they want me to open an account in my own name over here for verification purposes...which is actually a problem 'cos I don't have $2000 on me.
My taxes and duties is close to $19000 because of the amount on my check and they expect me to pay these charges before my check can be released to me being a non resident.

I did succeed in raising the money for my flight and getting an extension;my guide was very instrumental to this.Very surprising how you can get help from unexpected quarters.
