It is a scam, plain and simple.

People outside the army do NOT apply for leave for soldier, EVER. That policy only exists in the imagination of scammers, and the moment a "soldier" asks you to apply for leave for him, you can be certain he is an African scammer, not an American soldier.

Leave is earned, based primarily on time served. It is like vacation from a regular job. The soldier requests to be able to take his leave (which is not several months, either,) and based on the needs of the military, his superiors either approve or deny the requested timing. If they approve it, he pays nothing, and neither does anyone else.

The US military does not use email addresses from gmx.com, yahoo.com, armyatwar.com, or any of the dozens of other free email addresses scammers use. Official military emails will come from an address ending in .mil .

As far as the military is concerned, a woman (or man) a soldier met online is nothing more than a "pen pal," even if he says he's going to marry you, when you have never met in person. A pen pal has no legal standing, and no official connection to the soldier. He/she is not eligible for any military benefits. The military does not share any information about soldiers with "pen pals." It would, in fact, be illegal in most cases. So if you have met a "soldier" online, and you are supposed to contact, or be contacted by, the military for ANY reason, you can assume you are dealing with a scammer.

Greetings kazam. Please do NOT send money to the scammer. It's just another silly tosser hoping to get it's slippery hand inside your purse to fleece you. If you scroll to the top of this page and type military scam into the site search function, the results are amazing. Please take your time to read them and you will quickly see a familiar pattern emerge.
