Information on romance scams and scammers.

Although I do not have the original emails sent from this one, I will give you a synopsis. He uses a compilation of various profiles which I've encountered on other listings on this site. He professes he went to Oxford, is the only son of the late Dr./Professor David & Mrs. Southgate, is from Lisburn, Ireland and works as Head of Operations as a Marine Engineer for MSC Shipping, Co. and lives in London with his 10 year old daughter. His wife died in a car accident 5 years ago. His email addresses range from [email protected], [email protected], [email protected].

The picture this one selected matches his description ~ medium build of 5'11" and 190#, likes to sing, swim, bowl, dance, watch movies in his cabin. Looking to find an honest, friendly, caring, God fearing woman. He wants to build a solid, secure relationship. He uses Facebook as a location/dating site claiming your profile came across his attention.

He is a skilled professional and uses three scams in one ~ romance, confidence, and advance fee/document scams. His voice is smoother than ice and just as wily using sophistication, articulation, patience, and humor as his weapons which become barbed when his requests are not met. Check love poem/love letter sites for his words by putting a few of the text words into a search. YouTube songs are his favorite mechanisms to convey conversations. He did call at 'appropriate' times for my location.

He, also, utilizes a diplomatic courrier service as a third party to transport his monies to a safe place because the ship's engine broke down, bad weather influencing the ship, and pirates (do not scoff as pirate attacks are definitely a reality in the Asian/Malaysian part of the world). In actually, he uses a well tuned and oiled 'machine' with who knows how many colleagues.

What throws one off is the offer to reimburse for any expenses incurred and leading you to believe there will be only one expense before shipment arrives for you to forward to Australia for buying oil drums as he also has a personal business so he can quit his job to stay home with his daughter. He makes the appearance he has monies either from his business, his inheritance, etc. and doesn't need any money. Actually he is seemingly generous with his money that you don't know he has. He is just in a situation which will not allow him to do anything until on shore. Very convincing of his 'reality' with always answers for anything.

His goal is to keep you off balance with enough plausible information, engaging sense of humor, building of trust and confidence for when he is questioned odd things happen like emails are hacked, profile is hacked, phones change to keep one guessing, paying, and not questioning. Must have some psychological training or be a good people reader.

What you have posted is one of the most common scripts we receive. Scammers come in all kinds. Some are well educated and choose to cheat people as an easy way to obtain money. Others are more like homeless and choose scamming as a way to obtain money.

The person in the photos is not the person who is scamming. Scammers choose photos which are believable. You may have spoken to the scammer and you may have spoken to someone the scammer paid to play the role.

Regardless, scammers all have the same goal. To make as much of your money theirs as possible.

Welcome Pids,

Though I'm sorry your relative was scammed, I'm glad that information here helped her to see the truth. If she is willing, please ask her to read the topic for victims that is linked in my signature line.

If you have any more information -- new scripts, phone numbers, aliases, etc. please do add them if possible--they could help yet another victim to see the truth.
