I have been writing and chatting extensively with Janet since February, after a break of over 2 months in our conversations. I have a copy of her US Visa (and if it is a Photoshop, it is a darn good one). She has never asked for anything, save for helping with her internet bill which is sent direct to the company (www.ghanaairtime.com).

I would be interested in talking with the original poster as to his or her reasons for believing Janet was a scammer.

For additional information, she claims two sisters, Esther and Sandra, of whom she has provided photo's of them with Janet. Claims that her mother is the Police Chief in Tema, Ghana, and that the family owns a grocery store where Janet puts in time as a cashier.

Anyhow, that's it for now.

Enchantress (the original poster) is a scambaiter with significant experience with romance scammers, and will have done her research on any scammer she posts.

A couple of quick searches makes it abundantly clear that this is indeed a scammer you are dealing with. As Enchantress already stated, this person has multiple profiles, with different (conflicting) information from one profile to the next. "She" has claimed to be from the US, UK, and South Africa, at a minimum. "Her" career has also changed from one profile to the next--there is no doubt the profiles belong to the same person , as the email address is the same. He/she also made the romancescam blog after attempting to log in from Ghana and create a profile claiming Texas on a dating site.

The profile Enchantress posted (obviously not the only one out there) also contains mistakes and a writing style consistent with an African. The "38-70" age range is also typical of a romance scammer. As far as the visa goes (and I'm confused as to what visa you are referring to), we have seen lots of photoshopped passports over the years, and some are certainly better than others. In general, scammers are quick to offer a passport copy, especially if their fake is all ready for the scam, while real people generally will not offer to send a passport or visa, due to identity theft concerns.

The ghanaairtime site you reference is actually ranked "poor" in web of trust--the rating is based on negative feedback, and includes specific references to the use by romance scammers.

So, other than inconsistencies, you have no information, particularly any anecdotal information that claims or suggests that this is indeed a scammer?

What you are doing is warning people that based on these inconsistencies, that this individual is more than likely a scammer. Telling the public that someone IS a scammer is a much more damning claim and, at least in this case and based upon the shown exhibits, is insupportable, and may even be considered libelous.

Inconsistencies are things like likes/dislikes, or general descriptions of oneself. Claiming to live in 3 different countries and have 2 completely different jobs/careers are well beyond inconsistency. Being flagged by a dating site because you log on trying to create an account claiming you are in the US, when your IP shows that you are sitting at a computer in Ghana, is also well beyond inconsistency. Romance scamming has become an industry in some African countries, including Ghana, and while the stories may vary, the elements of profiles, emails, and overall course of the scam are generally the same. "Janet" is a textbook case.

-has a copied dating profile with a description that shows up in over 200 scam profiles (2 examples below but over 200 more out there)!

In addition, you have already acknowledged that "she" has already gotten money from you, and you haven't met "her" in person (yes, paying for internet counts).

This is not the first, and I know it won't be the last time that someone who is currently being fooled by a scammer comes on this board and attempts to argue that a report is false. If there is any reason to believe that a report is false, any evidence the person is real, we will pull it. In this case, that won't happen.

I know it can be difficult to accept when you believe you have found someone real, but the simple fact is, this is a bog-standard romance scam. I could probably review the emails and chat logs you have from your relationship and point out several standard scammer tactics and flags, and I would be happy to do so either on this thread or privately by pm if it would help you, but there is already more than enough evidence to post this scammer without that information.

For your sake, I hope that this thread at least causes you to think twice before sending any more money to this person or to someone else on "her" behalf. If you want to send money to a perfect stranger who fits the profile of a scammer that is up to you, but we are going to do our best to ensure that others are aware and can avoid being scammed, and listing known scammer information is one way to do that.

It most certainly would be as it would be some coup for a scammer from Ghana posing as a lawyer to make it inside a US courtroom!

Anyone who is not a native English speaker may not see the atrocious English that clearly places this author well outside of the United States, but luckily language is not the only sign--the IP address this scammer posted from places him squarely in Ghana. This scammer apparently doesn't want to stop at posting fake profiles all over the internet. Apparently now he is cocky (and clueless) enough to think that he can somehow get away with posing as an attorney in the United States. Edit to add: Please feel free to come join us in a US courtroom at any time--you won't be able to scam from inside the American prison system.

Apparently your scammer was afraid of losing you and/or some other victim, so he thought he would attempt to save his scam by posting this tripe and hoping we would be dumb enough to believe it. I hope that seeing this will help you to see a little more clearly what and who you are dealing with. Undoubtedly, this Scott character is another creation of the same scammer playing the Janet character.

It is quite common for scammers to threaten to sue us for having their details posted, in fact, I have only ever known scammers to threaten legal action when their details are posted.

A definate scam and a feeble attempt by the scammer to hang on to his victims who are hopefully starting to see the truth.

i personally won't chat with anyone from Ghana anymore. I have talked to some people that have been there, and have told me that the people they met were very friendly. but the reputation this country has as far as men perpetrating scams from internet cafes pretending to be women using pictures they obtained from the internet (mostly porn models) is well known. the local authorities generally look the other way, as it reduces poverty, as nearly 50% of the population does not have a high school education. She may be that 1 out of a thousand real deal, but do you really want to take that chance? especially if others have reported her/him?...
