Information on romance scams and scammers.

I received an email through Match.com from a man with the username "newcommer552" and asking that I respond to him at his email address "[email protected]." He indicated that once he had found me he was done with the site and wanted to concentrate his energy on a serious relationship with me. Too much, too soon, too fast!!! We wrote to one another 5 or 6 times and each time something felt suspicious. Then this morning I received an email that clearly was a cut and paste job and way too philosophical. His written English was not quite right and then it was perfect but then again not quite right. Red flags each day -- big one today! So I googled a passage from the email and SURPRISE!!! It was right on this site posted by jerseygirl56 a little less than a year ago:

Dear _____:

Hope you are having nice morning with a little excitement. Going on line to find a suitable companion, seemed hopeless for me, at the beginning. Most of my earlier contacts that wrote me on the first two days were from much younger women. They always left me feeling bewildered and asking the questions, should I be flattered or insulted? In addition, there was always the concern - "what were the motives"? My faith was restored, when I decided to write instead of wait to be written. I wrote you and you appeared I thank my "lucky star" and enjoy the wonder of it. Essentially, I was so deeply happy that you displayed the qualities I was looking for, found out that we shared a lot of the same interests and I adored the expressive e-mails.

Lonely times make us search harder for the good times. Bad times are only vague memories and we can look to the future with optimism to happy times. To "give" and "receive", to pamper, to spoil, to guide, to care for in all ways, makes for a wonderful relationship. There is no need for anger, when there is understanding, loyalty and sincerity, open communication and the ability to compensate for differences. Life is meant to be enjoyed and thusly, should not harbor hurtful thoughts and actions. Life is full of obstacles - to survive; one has to approach the obstacles with an open mind and a desire to overcome them. Let your heart tell you, if you want to be victorious in the challenge. Is the challenge worth the extra effort? Will it make your life better? Then pursue it with all your might. They say "Love" overcomes all obstacles. But to love blindly - leaves scares in your heart. The "ups" and "downs" in peoples life can be painful but can be healed with limitless compassion.

Happiness is created in many ways - mostly in what people do and say! Your words encourage me to drink long and hard from the cup of life; to capture every drop of adventure that comes my way. I often ask myself, why we met - even if it was in such an unconventional way! I truly believe that a "path" is mapped out for us, when we are born. Are we given a purpose - are we given instructions on how to live our life and what we are to achieve? We are guided by our parents, teachers and friends and unconsciously adapt some of their ways to our life. However, there is a greater plan for us in the making. We are tested daily to make us stronger. Stumbling blocks are put in our way to overcome and make us rise above them. Many people travel from cradle to grave without ever seeing themselves clearly, without accepting heartache and grief and without ever wondering about their past, present and future. They accept their life blindly, without questions or true understanding of their own value and potential. They become frustrated, disillusioned and bitter. We have all been given the tools to excel, feel more important, more fulfilled and more useful. You have shown me that you know how to use the tools so don't ever let anyone tell you that you will not accomplish and excel at what you have chosen, or perhaps, what had been chosen for you. What measure do they use to compare, or do they feel inadequate in their own achievements?

Success is a passion for living. Success belongs to each and every human being. It is not for the few, or the chosen ones, or the rich, or the educated. Success is for everyone. IT IS FOR YOU. Success is simple; it means having, doing and becoming the best that life affords. It means service to mankind. Success means applying your best effort to realizing your best results, leaving the world a better place. It is winning at the game of life. Success is life itself! Success is no secret; no mystery; no cause for frustration or misery. It is yours to claim.

So, was I meant to come into your life to help you see your own worth, to encourage and support and show you the heights that you have already accomplished. I have not chosen your "path" and don't know the plan decided for you, but I know you have a passion for life, so you are and always will be successful. I am grateful to you for giving me your trust, but I think you now know, I would not misguide you. When I think about you, a picture comes to mind, a woman sweet and gentle, with a heart that is one of a kind. Your light shines ever bright - your love an endless sea.... and nothing could be sweeter than the love you have for me. , you are my inspiration, but most of all my gift from God to me. I want to wish you a happy new day and with this email welcome you to an inspiring weekend of good luck and success in all you do. This letter may not be too romantic but inspiring enough to start your day. I thank God above for you, May you always find new blessings .For as long as you may live!! am sorry i don't usually receive text massages on my phone, i have wondered why but i must try to rectify it as soon as possible.

I will always love you if you permit me to do just that..

Hugs and Kisses,
Mario

OMG - Really???? This -- after telling me of all the tragedies that had befallen him -- the death of his wife 10 years ago, the death of his only son and father in an auto accident, his having one daughter (Antoinette) who lives in Palermo, Italy with his mum...which is where he was supposedly born....blah-blah-blah. For your additional reading enjoyment below is the 3rd email I recieved from him (he doesn't even know me and he mentions becoming my "hubby"):

Dear _____:

Its a new day again, that I wake up and the first thing that comes into my mind is to check my email and see if you have written me. I panicked this morning with fear of not being disappointed but at the end it will turn out that your email is there and the fear disappears for happiness to return. You are just the person that I want to be with even without meeting you yet. This little period of email communication is enough for me to say so and I can say it again and again and even louder.sorry, like I am rushing things. LOL , but my inner spirit is telling me that there is something special about you that attracted you to me, something that i can feel right inside me.

Since 2 days now It's been wonderful, I never expected to feel this way nor actually be with you in this way, experiencing life with you even though we are yet to meet each other. You are wonderful to me. You make me really happy and even though we are apart, i know this. The feeling that I will get will be overwhelming when I will get to see you for the first time after all this while of email communication, my feelings for you has grown dramatically. I want you to be my best friend to whom i trust in, enjoy life with, share all adventures and all i have to offer forever.

I was thinking so much about that wonderful day, when I am going to meet you and see your beautiful face. I am getting butterflies in my stomach just at the thought of seeing you for the first time. You make everything complete and I can't imagine spending time with someone else and having these feelings for anyone else. I'm anxious to see you soon. Time is ticking, and it's going by really slow. i think it will be nice to speak on phone someday to multiply our zeal and hunger to meet each other. thank you for telling me more about you.

It takes a strong woman to accomplish everything that you have in your life, You are what I dreamed of when I decided to go into relationship again, someone with integrity, honesty, love, affection, God fearing, and with such a charming personality. I never thought I would find you, but here you are. I am glad...

I want to give you my heart and soul, I have no doubt we shall make a good match, I could not ask for more. I will be the luckiest man in the world to be called your hubby, I'm truly honored.

Have a nice day, filled With love..

Mario

This is a follow-up to my original post earlier this morning:

When I did not respond to "Mario's" lengthy email (the same scripted message that had been sent to jerseygirl56 last year) I received a short message this morning asking if I had received his email. When I did not respond to that, I received a "blocked" telephone call at 5:16 am that I did not answer. Guess we can figure out who that was! But even more interestingly, I then received yet another telephone call at 9:47 am from 2348039209237 which I did not answer as well recognizing it to be of an international origin. Heads up everyone = 234 country code is Nigeria...the hot bed for scammers! Beware...the US telephone number given to me to call him anytime (which I also never did) was 940-604-3559 which is a number issued by Choice Wireless, LC of Wichita Falls, TX.

Below is a copy of his Match.com initial email to me. This is how it starts but it ramps up very quickly encouraging daily interation so trust your intuition:

I am a person who is grateful for the family and friends in my life, the home I live in, the profession I work in, the joy I find in traveling, the health that I enjoy, and not knowing what's around the corner. Let me apologize for taking a minute delay to get back to you not to talk of all this long. Nice email like yours should be answered immediately it was received but unfortunately i was so occupied to attend to my email but that will not happen again. I want to thank you for your email which I am very happy to read. I know you will find me interesting to be with when this relationship develops as I have seen that we are seeking the same thing in life. Words can’t express how excited I feel right now.

I am a God fearing, affectionate, outgoing, active, energetic ,positive, generous man with a healthy sense of humor who is rediscovering all that life has to offer .I am a Fun loving, humble man with the believe that a woman should be treated like a lady and that it is always ladies first. I am a Fund Manager that loves my work the way I love to enjoy life. I am fun to be with and can be very romantic. I am positive on everything that life brings me. I believe that I am where I am at this point in my life for a good reason. I am an honest and caring person who is very loyal to those I care about. I've traveled extensively in the course of doing my work. I am financially very okay. I consider myself to be a gentleman with good values. I am equally comfortable in a suit and tie as well as a pair of jeans. I am neat and clean in my living and my appearance. I enjoy nice things

I am so happy to have come across you and i know that that you would want us to take this relationship slowly but I will try to be positive and consistent. I know you will not see me as moving fast as have come to understand that I will need a serious relationship in my life.

I was so excited when I read your profile; I really need a lady that is passionate and caring. Some one that is ready to spend the rest of her life with me. Someone that can accept me with my joking attitude, people say that I play with everything except my work. But what they did not know is that I can play with my work but not with my relationship or someone that I love .That is what I know that I can’t play with. This is why I prefer people that will appreciate my humorous attitude. I am fun to be with and believe in the saying, ‘the older the wine, the better” so I don’t believe in age being a hindrance in a relationship. Let ’s talk and get to know more about ourselves better.

I like seeing soccer, movies and listening to music. I like going to the beach and climbing mountains. Though I have only climbed once at Dublin . Am currently working as a Senior Consultant Fund Manager, but would want to be self employed in near future. I am a trained educationist and learnt the Fund Management trade under Robert Kiyosaki. I worked with him for seven years speaking on investing, fund management and teaching on how to benefit from the content of his three major books, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Rich Dad's CASHFLOW Quadrant, and Rich Dad's Guide to Investing. It was while on a tour with him to Aberdeen Scotland that I was made on offer by my company. I worked with them for 6 years before I return to United States and now work as a Consultant Fund Manager.

I really can’t wait to be happy again forever. It has been a very long while since I tasted relationship and love. I pray that this comes out well as I am ready to give my all for this relationship. I can create all the time in the world to make it work as my job is not too demanding. .You will never regret meeting me, my late wife never did, so you will not. I promise!!!

Regards
Mario

Good Morning xxx,
It was so delightful reading your email! I love to surround myself with happy, cheerful people and you seem to be one of those people. Like everyone else, I've had bad things happen in life but I believe there is something good that comes out of every bad. Besides, it takes too much energy to be negative. So much easier to look at things in a positive light.

I've been single for the past 10 years. Up until recently, I haven't been lonely. Now, when I get off the train at night, a touch of loneliness starts to set in. I'm very busy with my job, have many friends to hang out with, and travel a lot. Those are the things that have kept me occupied. I want to retire in about 2 years and I realize now I don't want to be alone in retirement. I recently was on vacation in Venice and I saw so many retired couples traveling and enjoying life. It made me realize how much I miss being part of a couple, part of a team.

I have kept myself busy with my job and going out with friends. Up until the NHL went on strike, I never missed a Caps game, either being at the game or watching on TV. Much more fun to be there! I also love the theater, going to the movies, dancing, dancing, dancing, going out to dinner, taking long walks either in the city or out in the country. I recently saw Warhorse on Broadway and it was spectacular! Nothing like the live theater. I belong to the International Club of DC and I attend many events at the various embassies around the city. Lots of dances at the French Embassy which I never attend because I don't have a dance partner.

I love to travel, especially to Europe. There is Italy and then there is the rest of Europe! After I retire, I want to go to Italy and stay with my family for about a month and travel all over the country. I also enjoyed Rome. Very beautiful city I would also like to rent an apartment just outside of Paris for a month and travel all over the country. I have traveled over the northern part of France and it was beautiful. I took both my daughter and mother to Paris about two years ago and we enjoyed every minute.

I have one daughter who is the sunshine of my life. I travel to visit her about every two months. I'd love to go on and on but I must get to work. I'm driving in today and will be staying late this evening. I find it helps to get caught up when there is no one around! please tell me little about yourself.

I hope you have a wonderful day.
Mario

How easy is this! This fake posted to my OKCupid account this morning. I copied his picture and within a few seconds found this site and your posts.

Thank you!

I received these exact same emails only mine are from John Frank in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Things didn't sound right from the beginning. Incorrect English and spelling from someone who is supposedly educated. Names of places transposed. Busy schedule but will make time for you but only during certain time.
Incorrect English and then perfect English so you know it's been copied from a book. I copied a passage and plugged it into google and this site came up with the exact emails I have received. Mistake with the last email was wishing me a nice Thursday when its Tuesday and signing it Jenny instead of John. May be scamming a male also using the name Jenny and forgot to change it when he sent me the same email. Also wanted to be my "hubby" after only 2 emails.

It's easy when the scammers get your gender or details wrong. They often use the same email or basic profile on several sites.
Thanks to all of you for seeing the patterns and coming here to scamwarners to post. With every post, someone else could see the truth.
