Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hi, I live in Missouri and met a guy off DateHookup. He says he has been deployed in Afghanistan for a year and will be coming home end of August. At that time he will be retiring after 30 years in military. He is a Master Sergeant and his name is Robert Turpin. I've not been asked for money like the posts I've read about on here but I'm still paranoid. He wants to meet me once he's home. He says he can't make phone calls which I thought odd. Anyway just wanting to know if you can check to see if he's real. He's supposedly stationed at Ft Riley army base and that's where he will be returning end of August. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I don't even have to check the name. Soldiers deployed in afghanistan are NOT able to hang out on dating sites. The only "deployed soldiers" you will meet are African scammers. It's not uncommon for romance scammers to wait a bit longer before asking for money, but the requests would come soon enough.

Could you please post the email address this scammer used, as well as the first few emails he sent you? These emails will be scripts that he likely reuses.

Email was [email protected]. Here are the 2 emails plus I have all text messages sent.

Its late in the night,i found myself not sleeping i cant just take my heart off you.I want you to know how much I sincerely love the times we've spent talking. It means so much to me. It truly seems like I've known you forever now. There will be no looking back, no second thoughts and no regrets.Sometimes life hits you with unexpected things that take you totally by surprise. All I can say is you're the best surprise life has given me and your capacity for love, caring, and understanding never ceases to amaze me.Just you want you to know am thinking about you xxx.

And the second one.....Hello Darling,
I know I can't give you the whole world, but I can promise you I will always love you. My heart is yours, and even though I know I’ll make mistakes, I will never break your heart. I’ll be right beside you as we chase our dreams together, and you will never have to wonder if I still care. I think about you all day long and when I'm not near you my mind is consumed with thoughts of being close to you again. When you’re near me I feel like everything in the world is right, and I know I don't have to ask God for anything because as long I have you in my life I have everything I could ever want. All I want to do is spend the rest of my life making you as happy as you have made me. I know you might already have someone else, but if you do, I hope that she feels the same way I feel because that’s what you deserve.

Love you always,
Robert

There are definite signs that the writing is from an African scammer and also inconsistencies that show at least part of it is copied and pasted.

As Dotti said he is a scammer using stolen poems from Lovingyou.com.

Here is one of them. http://archive.lovingyou.com/content/in ... php?ID=851
yet both stolen from there. This is typical with scammers. They just copy and paste and add your name. Occasionally, they will change some minor details

The scammer is sending this same script to every one woman who replies to him.
