Hi Everyone/Anyone,

met someone online and now I'm suspecting he might be scamming me. But contrary to most scam stories I've seen this guy on videochat. Here goes the sstory.

t him online was a bit depressed of a breakup at the time I created a profile on some online dating sites - whatever gets u through a depression right anyway I ended up deleting those accounts but there's one guy left who I kept in touch with. This guy inititiated videochat upon mmeeting and no there was no instant love created but we'd always communicate. He was born in Pakistan lives in Dubai and has business in Dubai and his parents are in the US. Said he'll get his US passport in Jan 2014 . Course I frowned but anyway I wasnt inlove and he can prove sooner or later of that's true.. Then one day I told him I finished my project and will be out of job soon. He said I should go to Dubai. I've always wanted to but I said it's a financial risk and will coat so much but he said he'll hhelp me. Anyway by around this time I have fallen a bit for him but I couldn't risk going to Dubai so I asked him to come here instead and meet me on my birthday. He said it's difficult with him having a Pakistani visa which is true yes and he needs sponsor letter. So I said I can give a letter of invitation anyway he needs my passport copy along with that letter which I haven't given yet. In the middle of all these planning his visit, one night he tells me he has a problem, his accountant got away with all his money and went to India. Now he nneeds money and sounds genuinely panicking. He's selling his car but h. Needs cash now and wouldn't ask his family for help because his brother refused sending 300 USD and wouldn't ask help from anyone else because his family was not ok with him going to Dubai in the first place they'll ask him to go back to US. This is weird for me but I pity him at the same time. He said that if I don't believe him then I shouldn' send money.I have a red alert buzzing in my head and a pity nudging my conscience. He's not borrowing much so why can't anyone lend him right. But then again I pity him. ENLIGHTEN ME PLEASE

If you met someone on a dating site, and he asks for money before you have met in person, DROP HIM. He's telling lies.

Did he ask you to switch from PM on the site to email? If so, could you post the emails, with full headers?

It is not uncommon for scammers to use pre-recorded footage on a web cam to make you believe you are chatting to them.

It is a scam, as Vonpaso said.

Don't pity this guy he would steal your last $300 and then he would ask you to beg, steal and borrow to send him another $300. Please do not send this man any money and drop all contact with him.

.

Listen to the Red Alert, as to your conscience better to have that, than to lose money to a scammer, and from reading what you have written I suspect that is what you are dealing with.

Hi Vonpasco,

No he didnt ask to switch from PM to email. In fact I was the one who asked to switch from skype to whatsapp as it was more convenient for me. Its one of the things I actually thought hes legit. Everything was normal there was never a topic about finances that he initiated and the only reason I got those information about what he do is because I ask them BUT like you said ---

I also thought of this before and tested him it was weird really there was always something wrong with his mic and the only time i get to hear him is on phone so I thought id point at something behind him and asked him to pick it up and he did...

To all of you who responded Thank you very much. I thought that having worked in a bank made me so paranoid that I think everythings a scam and I dont know how to recognise a true and legit call for help but you all gave me a basis of knowing Im not just being paranoid.

Have a nice day everyone and thank you for devoting time to enlighten a person needing guidance :)

Gateway, you're absolutely right I wouldn't dare ask him for money. I just can't believe that I'm actually affected and hurt with this revelation.

Thank you for your help.
