Ok i know you are going to think I lost my mind but I met this guy on craigslist. He is also on FB: https://www.facebook.com/collins.mackellar?fref=ts

The only pics he has sent me are the same as the ones on FB. I really want to believe this guy is real but I am thinking this is a scam. What really worries me is I was actually talking to a couple different guys just as friends and another one ask me about arranging where we could talk on the phone. Totally different names but met them both via craigslist. I am sticking to guys I can actually meet face to face from here on out.

My Mackellar Collins who prefers to be called Collins has 2 children residing in CA and Fl both in college and a deceased wife that died in a car crash. We met on craigslist - I know how could i even be dumb enough to look for someone on there don't ask! Anyway we started talking via email which progressed to yahoo messenger and finally via text messages. Last week he suggested we get a "secureline" so that we could talk on the phone. He explained that when he went to Afghanistan he had to give 3-4 people for contact that he could call. If anyone else wanted to talk to him on phone special permission had to be granted and a secureline procured. He sent me a email of how to request permission to be able to talk via phone. I got a reply back within hours granting the request and how to purchase! secureline - $250 for 4 weeks and up. I immediately told him I could not afford that as I am going through a divorce and just getting started on my own as a single mom - he knew all of this already. He kept pushing the issue and even told me that this was going to get him in trouble with his job because I didn't follow through on purchasing secureline. I received a follow up email tonight about why I had not done so and that it could cause problems for him from some Ts2 General Secretary (same last name as Mackellar - go figure). I replied back why I couldn't purchase the line and that I would be more than happy to contact a General friend in Washington,DC at the Pentagon (my soon to be ex was stationed there pretty high up big help!) and ask him to assist in making sure Mackellar didn't get into trouble because I couldnt at this time afford to purchase this line. I told Mackellar about the follow up email. He emphasized that it really could cause problems for him. That is when I googled the secretary thing and found this site. I played dumb and told him what I had found and that he needed to go to his CO right away. He replied back he would talk to his LT - now why would a Colonel talk to a LT?? I didn't say anything as I would prefer this embarrassment just go away. I hope this helps someone else keep from being scammed. I am just glad I truly could not afford to send the money at the time. If it had been a month ago I would have sent it without even thinking about it.

People in the military don't need people outside the military to request or pay for anything. People in the US army don't write like Africans. Military people don't use free email addresses for official business.

mhchameleon, take this as a basic rule of thumb.
Whenever someone you have *never* met requests any type of money to be sent to him, it is a scam.
