At present I am communicating with someone through Skype and email claiming to be Gen. Daniel Bolger. How can I find out if he is for real or an impostor?

Welcome to Scamwarners sally123.

There is no earthly chance that you're in Skype contact with Gen. Daniel Bolger. He is frequently impersonated by Nigerian scammers but they don't realise that senior US military figures don't join dating sites and speak to strangers on Skype.

TerranceBoyce is spot on with his analysis but if you feel you need further proof post one of his Emails up here with headers but make sure to blank out any personal information about yourself. Unless he is using an Email provider that masks the senders IP address my hunch is the IP in the headers will probably resolve to somewhere in West Africa. I would also hazard a guess that the English in the Email is not up to the standard you would expect of a high ranking military personnel or even a low ranking one for that matter.

Someone of that level would be ringed with tight security and he'd not be allowed to make any such contacts. In normal life he wouldn't ever identify himself or his rank, as he'd immediately become a target for any number of terrorist groups and foreign powers anxious to penetrate security or embarrass the USA.

The fact that he identifies himself, proves that he isn't who he says he is. If he ever has time that he can be in civilian clothes then he won't identify himself. When he is in military outfit he will deal with you as a high ranking military officer and not indulge in social chat.

The scammer is particularly stupid to believe that he can impersonate such a senior military figure. The punch line is bound to be a 'stunner'. Presumably he'll claim to have come across a stash of money he needs your help to dispose of and he'll want you to pay fees to some 'diplomat'.

The scammer should grow up and get a job.

In addition to what I already wrote about communicating with someone claiming to be Gen. Daniel Bolger, I got more info. on the source of his email.

No, that's just a Hotmail IP address. Hotmail has been hiding the source IP address for several months.
