Hello...
I was asked by a man who claimed to be in the Army to send his General a Vacation Request for him, i was skeptical, but i gave him the benefit of the doubt. He failed to inform me that i would have to pay for his leave. After I received the email and saw the Vacation Plan and the amounts, I knew something wasn't right. I decided to copy and paste it below after I read some of the forums and my suspicions were confirmed, that it is a scam... I'm posting this i guess for re-confirmation and that I'm not crazy... I hate the thought that i fell for someone that could do this to me or anyone.... Especially using the military to get to someone. Thank you for your time.
P.S. I didn't send him any money....

Sadly, I didn't actually have to open your post to know exactly what this was going to be about. This scam is just so popular these days.

100% scam, absolutely no doubt in any way about that.
The writing tells me that the "general" is African, no big surprises there. The "general" is either the same person who is writing to you, or another in his scam gang.

As to using soldiers in this way--these scammers are completely without conscience. They will say and do anything, hurt anyone, if they think it will get them money. You could be evicted from your home, living on the street, and they would gladly take the last cash from your pocket without even thinking twice about it.

It is important to know a few things when dealing with "soldiers"

1) Soldiers that are stationed in war zones have much more important things to do than hang out on dating sites and chat with women they have never met (and that's assuming they are allowed to hang out on chat, which is not always the case. From the start, over 99% of the dating profiles and a very high percentage of facebook pages for "soldiers" who are stationed in a war zone are fakes created by scammers.

2)The US military is based on the concept of the chain of command. The organizational structure works because each soldier has a place in the chain. He is held accountable for EVERYTHING he does, and he can get in serious trouble if he does not follow that chain. That includes requesting leave. He must request it for HIMSELF, and he must go through proper channels. You, as an outsider, would never make a request for a soldier. You are not part of that chain, and you have no place making requests. Incidentally, this applies to wives as well--they cannot make any requests on behalf of their husbands.

3) A soldier who is deployed will generally get 15 days of leave while on tour. He can't get 3 weeks, let alone 24! 24 weeks is long past the category of "deserter!"

4) Soldiers do NOT pay for leave. Neither do the people they are visiting. The US military makes travel arrangements for them. There is no cost to the soldier.

5) Soldiers who are single parents are required to have documented care plans for their children. That includes leaving someone else with LEGAL custody of the children. They cannot just leave them with a nanny (except in the imaginary scammer military.)

6) There is no refundable deposit for leave, nor is there a leave "bonus."

7) Soldiers are paid for their service. They CAN access their money.

8) Children of soldiers are covered through the soldier's military dependent medical coverage. It is VERY GOOD coverage. A soldier is NOT going to have to come up with a large sum of money for their child's medical emergency.

9) All soldiers have an AKO address that ends in .mil and they CAN give it to you. It is free, and they can receive and reply to an email you send to it. If they tell you they can't give you the address, or they can't receive an email from you and reply directly to it, then they are scammers.

Welcome to the forums sstanton. I am happy your radar was switched on and suspicions came to the surface.
If you scroll to the top of this page you will see the site search function on the top right hand side. Type in the words:- soldier leave, military scam or words similar and the results that show on the screen will amaze you. These vacation type scams are littered throughout the forums. As you have realised, anytime a military person writes and seeks your monetary assistance for anything - it is a scam without doubt.

had the same thing kinda happen but did not go far. sent me a post to a cl ad that said he was widowed and lost his wife and baby during the birth. he put a face book page up just a few days before. (i checked) thought why not play your game?? so i replied and he was all honey and baby and darling to me...plez!! i asked how long have you been with the marines knowing that the pics sent to me are army, he did not correct me. so i emailed again what do you do with the marines? again no correction. so i said ok lets cut the bullsnot and tell me who this is?? he said oh baby why do you say these things?? well the area code is 323 which is los angeles and your supposed to b frm new york i know that times have changed but i dont think you have to go thru cali to get txt yes txt from syria and with a small amount of thought do we have troops in sryia...mmm nope. so i explained that i may be blonde but that is dye and i may live in hickville tennessee but we do get newspapers and cable. i also added i do hope that a true ARMY MAN kicks his teeth in, but i would be more than happy to do it myself to which for some reason i have not heard from them anymore?? it is a very sad time that we live in that someone has to be so scummy and use our military to try to get money frm us, last i checked dont enuff of our money go elsewhere????

The activities of these maggots dishonours the US military.

The minute you recognise that you are dealing with one, drop him immediately.
