I was contacted online by a Major Daniel Morrison Edwards. He said that he was at a base in Afghanistan and he had a son. To come visit me I had to pay money for his leave and guarantee of his return. I now know that he is a scammer. He wanted me to pay to a receiver in USA. He then tell me he is in Ghana. Welcome to Scamwarners Jamarity,

You are correct it is a Military Romance scam. Now that you know he is a scammer. If you confront him he will only continue to lie. Scammers lie for a living. You can find more information here. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6527

Military members get free leave and they do not have to pay for it. Only the soldier can request leave. His family members nor internet girlfriends do not speak or request anything from his supervisors.

I also want to inform you on Recovery Scams. The scammer will contact you again with the same name or new name and email address informing you that you can get your money back. Sorry, to say you will never get your money back. He will just try to steal more money from you with new fees. Scammers also trick victims into removing there post with a promise of a refund. Scammers never return stolen money. He is only tricking you because he has other victims on the hook and do not want to lose them.

You can read about Recovery Scams here. viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3198

ETA:
You are correct he is in Ghana and falls in love quickly.

Hello brunnet1971 ,

I am sorry this has happened to you. This has happened to a lot of women in many Countries. Men and women from all likes of the World have found themselves a victim to these thieves.

Just stop all contact with him. Ignore him, block him from your phone and email. He may contact you again with a new name and email address. He will try to scam you again. This time he will know early on what buttons to push.

There is a scam called Recovery Scams. This is where the scammer contacts you pretending he is from some Government, Agency, Lawyer or Diplomat. He will tell you that he can get your back. This is to is to scam again. You will never get your money back. The scammer will have you pay fees via Western Union, Money Gram or Bank Transfer for the pretend return of your money.

These scammers will never apply for a Visa, buy a return plane ticket to visit anyone for any reason. This means there would be a record of who they really are.

The best practice is to never send money to someone you never met face to face
