Just to clarify/reiterate Grunt's posts above:
I'm assuming that the profile Grunt located (which was created last week, and is fake as a 3 dollar bill--Libya is not the only mistake the nitwit made) is the one the criminal is using in his attempts to scam you.
The scammer is not the man in the photos, and he is not American. He is most likely African but I would need to see some of his own writing to confirm that.
Unfortunately, while he is probably showering you with romantic poetry and quotes (which are mostly copied), and suggestions of a wonderful future, the only feelings that have actually developed on his side are the ones he has for the contents of your bank account and anything else you have that could be sold and turned into cash to be sent to him.
I am very sorry that you have started to be pulled into a romance scam, but glad that you recognized the possibility that it is not real before you got any further.
The best thing you can do is cut off all contact with this scammer. Do not confront him with being a scammer, as he will only tell more lies and attempt to convince you that he is real. Remember that this is what he does for a living. He is very experienced at lying and at using guilt and manipulation to get what he wants. To him, fake relationships are business.
If he has been in contact with you outside of facebook, posting his email address and some of his scripts may also help others to avoid being scammed.
