There is no maybe about it. It is absolutely, 100%, bog-standard romance scam.

You are not talking to a soldier. You are talking to an African man who has very likely never even set foot in the US. The photos he has sent you were simply stolen from the internet, either from news stories or a real soldier's facebook or myspace page.

If you were actually dating a real US soldier, you would have NO contact with the US military, and they would have NO contact with you.

Soldiers MUST request leave for themselves. You would NEVER be allowed to request a soldier's leave.
There are NO fees to be paid for leave.

If a soldier is eligible for leave, he applies HIMSELF for the timing he wants. You will have NO part of it. If it is acceptable, the military will set up travel for him as well. A soldier stationed overseas typically gets 15 days of leave during his deployment. If the soldier is not eligible, he cannot get leave, period. If he is eligible but the timing is not acceptable, he will be instructed as to what timing will be acceptable. There is no way to buy leave.

The best thing you can do is cut off all contact with this lowlife. Post some of his emails to you here (remove your name and any personal details related to you) and post all email addresses and/or phone numbers used in the scam (including the fake military address related to the "leave permit") and then just put him on ignore.

I notice in December of the year Twenty 10, the same script was used in a military type scam whereby the scammer called itself robert gonzalez.
