Evans Long- international drilling consultant

Hi everyone,
I believe my mother-in-law is getting scammed and was wondering if anyone has heard of this character. She met him on a dating website.
His name is Evans Long and he is an international drilling consultant. He is self employed and travels all over the world. His father is Irish, and mother Caribbean. Last month he needed $4000 for some work related reason, something to do with TanChang (sp) drilling. My mother-in-law told us she thought he was scamming her.
I am working on getting a picture. Thanks for any info!

I would say that it is 99% certain that your M-i-L is being scammed.

There are a number of red flags, such as the name used and the fact that he travels the world (makes it easy to get stuck in places and require money from the victim). Then there is the request for money - I very much doubt that he has paid her anything back. Do you know how she paid the money to him?

My MiL met a man on a seniors dating website. He sent her some photos, and I was wondering if anyone else has seen these going around. I tried am image search, but nothing came up.

It turns out she lent him the money! She says he re-paid it plus a little extra, though we have no proof of this. Anyways, she has now invited him and his 21 year old son to Christmas dinner with us, and he has accepted.
I am working on getting a picture.

Do you have access to any of the emails he sent her? If so, can you post them. We know the red flags and signs are there indicating scammer. With the emails and and email addresses he used we can better help you.

Post his dating profile name and if still there a link to his profile.

If it turn out that he is for real then we will delete this thread.

You've edited you original post to remove the bit mentioning that your MiL had paid some money to this man (which he repaid) and that he was visiting for Christmas. Did you remove it because he had actually repaid?

As to the photos - they don't come up on Google or TinEye, but they have the look of the type of set a scammer would use.

As Byron said, we need to see examples of his emails (particularly the earlier ones)

My MiL told me he paid her back plus a few hundred extra. Right after posting the pictures she received another email from him. I will copy the text at the bottom. Basically he was asking for an even larger sum of money. She didnt fall for it though. When I googled excerpts from the letter, lots of scam hits popped up. Some of the links even pointed to pictures of a man that looked very similar to him. She isnt going to bother with him anymore. Im not really sure what else I can do about him.

Yes, your Mother In Law was/is dealing with a scammer. The writing shows skills of a West African. His request, excuses and script is typical of a scammer.

Hi dexter1, so glad you came here to scamwarners and glad your MIL is paying attention now. It is very important that she cuts off all contact from this person. I am a former victim and I have to tell you I got caught in my scam because my scammer didn't follow the normal process I saw on websites, It was easier for me to believe he was a real person. Your MIL may have moments of hesitation because he paid her back. That really surprises me, even before he asked her for more money. But it's still all just a way to gain her trust. She must stay solid in her understanding that he indeed is a scammer and he will do anything he can if he thinks he can get her to listen to him again. Have her come here if needed for help. There is plenty of emotional fallout from losing someone who has paid attention to you and made you feel important and loved, even for a short period of time. I'm glad she has you watching out for her.
