Information on romance scams and scammers.

This woman likes to patrol dating sites and answers ads. I saw her picture and yes shes good looking...the bait.
We talked for a few days through text. I tried calling her 872 phone number, which I learned was a Chicago Number, however she told me she was in MN. She said she was using mothers phone since hers was broken. I believed it, I have kids and know phones can break.
She sent very nice pictures and sweet texts.
Last night Dec 2, she mentioned her mother was in need of medical care, that rose a flag for me, in Ghana, another flag. Asked if I would wire money. I said I would (with no intention of doing so.)
She gave me 00233 for a zip code. I suspected that was NY area so I typed it into my browser, thats when a Holy Shit moment happened. Tons of scams.
Its too bad, the girl in the pictures may not even know she is being used in this matter.
Luckily no money changed hands and no harm no foul.
My question is to who can I report the number as a scammer?

Welcome Boo1972,

The scenario you are describing is textbook African romance scammer. The scammer behind those emails is likely not even female! Most likely the scammer is actually located in Ghana, and the US phone number is a VOIP or magic jack, which can be answered anywhere in the world.

This type of scammer often uses scripted emails/messages that they simply copy and reuse on new victims, even after they change fake identities. Posting some of these early messages, along with "her" email address and phone number, could help other potential victims to identify the scam sooner.

As for the woman in the photos? She will have no connection to the scammer, though she may know her photos are being used in scams. These scammers often use photos of porn actresses and models in their scams, and many of the women are aware of misuse of their photos, but unable to stop it.

I actually don't know anything about her lineage--she was just a random kitten who was found running outside and brought to the local animal shelter.
