Hello, before 1 week I was contacted by a person, who introduced himself by the name of George Mark via skype. He said to me that he is a lieutenant general in the US Army and his mission is in Afghanistan. He wrote to me such a nice letter, also mentioned that he is a widower from 6 year, that he have a son name harry, and that soon he will finished his mission in less than one month and will like to know me better .... that he is living in NJ, US.
He also asked for my e-mail address and he wrote me such a fine letter, so touching that on first place I just believed in everything what he said...AND I AM ANGRY AT MYSELF. He also send me a 3 pictures of him - very nice looking guy, and a picture with him and his child ... which obviously is not his, nor him. I also feel very sorry for the person, because the lier is using his pictures... all over the world probably ... I really would like to say in person to the victim how his pictures has been used and somebody have to do something about it. Unfortunately I also send 2 pictures of mine and I am worried about that as well. I am giving her the skype name of that scamer: george.mark90 , and the email address which he uses is: [email protected].
How I find that he is a scamer: He said that his child is living in michigan, but from school his child is going to West Africa Ghana on vacation for a period of 1 week... he also said that he is going in suicide mission in in the North Part of Afghanistan if he will be alive he will return in 2 days... /now this is when the "bell starts to ring" in my mind that something is not right/ but I continued till today /all just happened for a period of 1 week/.... this morning I received an e-mail from him that he returned and that he wants to marry me... that unfortunately he was shot in the leg, but his big frustration is that his child Harry and his classmates had a car accident in Ghana and he needs some money, but he is in the hospital so he can't do anything about that...well I said to him that this is the most stupid think I ever heard and that he needs to start to get a better job, instead of doing this... Actually I am concerned about other people, so this is the reason why I am giving his e-mail address and skype name - this is not the real person.. lieutenant General George Mark..and the poor guy on the picture as well - please advise me how I can contact that nice looking person in the military uniform and say to him that his picture has been used all over the world.... ?!?! I do not know where I should send the picture of the victim, so you guys help find that person...please advise me!!!! Thank you very much in advance

Welcome to Scamwarners Illiana_K.

You are correct to believe that the person who has contacted you is a liar, thief and scammer. It is very easy for people to lie and cheat on the internet using the photos of other people and this scammer has undoubtedly copied the words he sent you from websites that provide romantic texts for people to read and that scammers often copy.

His story is ridiculous and no Western troops go on suicide missions and Special Forces, who go on very dangerous, missions don't discuss them on the internet.

I'm sorry to inform you that the people whose photos have been used by scammers don't want to be contacted by people who have received them from scammers. They have wives and children and they will be disturbed to be contacted by strangers who think they know them. Nothing can be done to prevent the photos being used once they are in the hands of scammers and this can be something that causes them trouble for many years. They have personal lives and it will upset them to have strangers contacting them.

You can have the most innocent reason for wanting to do this but experience shows that you are unlikely to receive a good response from the person in the photo.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

Hi Illiana_K, glad you came here to scamwarners and knew the excuses for sending money didn't make sense. They do write beautiful things with the intent of having you believe them and their story so you will want to help them.
One of the first things we think of as victims is to find out who is in the photos. It's an instinct but we rarely do find that out. And yes, when it's a service member, it can make us really angry. Please just make sure you are no longer in contact with this person and understand while they may still be out there, you have reported here and, thanks to you, others will find out the truth.

There is nothing to be gained from contacting the person who's pictures they are - he can do nothing about it - the pictures are freely available to scammers and he can do nothing to stop that. It is also highly likely that he would not welcome being approached by a stranger in such a way.

If you want to help further victims, then the best thing to do is post some of the earlier emails you received (these will be scripted and used on all victims) and the photos.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.
