Information on romance scams and scammers.
by Monica1965 Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:15 am
I am a German woman and I started on a single platform just before xmas. On my second day I was contacted by a real nice guy who says he is serving in the british army as an captain. And we talked normal for some time.
I liked him a lot and started feeling more for him, and was told he felt the same way.
First he told me he would leave back home from is mission in Kabul beginning of February 2014.
After 10 days he told me, that he was redeployed and that he could depart from his misson in Afghanistan earliere, cause he would know a corrupt officer in head office, who would help if was paid.
When I asked him if he could tell me what the meaning of the word love-scamming would be, since I would not know it but a friend had told me about it, he got upset (angry) and said:
can we forget about meeting?
I think you do trust me
you know what Scamming means, I am not a kid
You think I am fake

I tried to find him or his picture somewhere to find out if he is a scammer or real, since I do not believe in corrupt officers that will make service men come home for money. But I got now results on my surch.

Maybe somebody here has heard of similar scamming and can help me. I also would like to stop these people.

Hello Monica,

It sounds like a scam from the limited info you have posted.

Would you be able to post the email address he is using and some of the emails and photos he has sent you (including the headers - just delete your personal details) and then we can better advise you.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Here are the mail adress he is using and some of our skype conversation:

[31.12.2013 09:29:38] Ashton morgan: xxxxxx, I was told by my colleague that names of officers that will redeployed to other mission will be out on January 2nd
[31.12.2013 09:30:07] Ashton morgan: This is sad because any officer whose namw will be there will have to serve for another 24 months
[31.12.2013 09:30:35] xxxxxxxxxx : what does that mean? You have to stay longer in Kabul???
[31.12.2013 09:31:03] Ashton morgan: he said that the leave will consist of mostly Single men and officers who had short term deployment
[31.12.2013 09:31:23] Ashton morgan: I do not know if my name will be there, we should pray that my name is not there
[31.12.2013 09:31:46] Ashton morgan: because my mind is on being with you soon

2 days later
[02.01.2014 19:02:55] Ashton morgan: The list will be officially out January 13th
[02.01.2014 19:03:09] Ashton morgan: But I was given a hint that my name will be in the list
[02.01.2014 19:03:47] xxxxxxxxxx : Is there anything we can do to get your name of that list, except for getting married before that date?
[02.01.2014 19:04:49] Ashton morgan: The good thing is that, the officer in london is a bit corrupt, he told me he could help. but he has to look for a way
[02.01.2014 19:05:00] Ashton morgan: he said he will get back to me tomorrow
[02.01.2014 19:05:26] xxxxxxxxxx : and you will pay him for the help?
[02.01.2014 19:05:31] Ashton morgan: at first I did not believe him when he told me my name will be on the list, but I had to confirm from other sources
[02.01.2014 19:05:48] Ashton morgan: I do not know yet xxxxxxx. I do not know if he can help

Here some information from the last email this morning, I already removed my personal detail (last name):

You are right that his email and name don't appear anywhere on the Internet.

To post his pictures, take a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3219.

Could you also post the body of some of the emails that he sent you and also details of where he has asked you to send any money (if you've got that far) and also a link to his profile on Badoo.

Unfortunately, because he is using a live.com email address (which in itself is a red flag - serviceman have access to official email addresses and have no need to use a free one) it isn't possible to tell where his email has been sent from.

It also might be advisable to totally remove your name and email address from your earlier post so that he has no idea which victim is reporting him

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Thank you for your reply!

How can I remove these informations from my earlier posting? I would love to remove it.

Please help me on this.

Here are the text from his last email this morning:
Today a feel very happy because I notice at each and every instant the importance you represent to me and the strength you transmit, so that I can face whichever obstacle without fear or insecurity, moved only by an infinite will to make you as happy as I feel this minute. You are gorgeous and adorable, capable of making me realize how good it is to feel alive, how good it is that your presence makes me grow and transform into a better person, capable of turning dreams into reality and make the result of those dreams, now shared by us both, and eternal an true full of harmony, care and love. My life without you would lack meaning, lack sense. Without you I would be nothing but a wandering errant, searching for my path that could lead me to happiness’s door. But with you around, by my side, close to me, I’m certain of having made the right, safer and yet romantic choice. I feel that all this love and care, that I share here with you, goes both ways and it fills my heart with peace and joy. Gazing endlessly into your deep yet sweet eyes, I realize the tender and pure light that pours from your heart and soul. I shall never let this feeling that joins us perish. Never, by any chance, let us not drift away from love’s true path, built on complicity and affection. I love you and forever will!

His mail from yesterday:
Hello my love, how has been your day. i hope you had a very pleasant day my love.... I am just writing you to let you know how much I love you. I know we have many miles separating us but I know we'll make it through. Darling, you mean the world to me and no one can ever compare to you. I think about you all the time, like I said, I wake up to thoughts of you and go to sleep with thoughts of you. Your name repeats over and over in my mind. Each day my love grows stronger for you and I know for a fact that my love will never fade. These miles between us won't fade away but I know that our love will keep us together. We will be together my love. I love you so much my Sweet Queen . I love you, Darling.

There should be an edit button next to your post, allowing you to edit it and remove your details. I've also flagged your post as well, so if you can't edit it a Mod will do it.

Scammers often use scripts and stolen poems etc for the content of their emails (often to hide the poor quality of their own English), so Googling some phrases from emails often gives results. I've just Googled "Today a feel very happy because I notice at each and every instant the importance you represent to me and the strength you transmit" and found a link to this 'page http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012 ... 50791.html, which you will see is the content of the first email you posted above.

There is not doubt in my mind that it is a scammer and had you gone on communicating with him he would hve asked you to send some money to pay the corrupt officer that he hinted about in your chat.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Monica. Thankyou and well done on posting the e-mail header. From my observance, part of the e-mail header looks sus. Part of it appears to have been forged by the sender and a legitimate person would have no need to alter. May I suggest strongly that you cease all forms of dialogue with the trickster.

From your original post Monica1965

.....cause he would know a corrupt officer in head office, who would help if was paid.

I'm not suggesting that there aren't officers in the British army who don't break rules, but any suggestion that leave can be bought is ridiculous, and no serving soldier would refer to his HQ as head office. Obviously if you provided money to bribe an officer you would be breaking the law and so would the soldier, but the reality is that the person isn't a soldier and he wants to steal money from you with his pathetic fairy tale.

If you are in love with someone you wouldn't beg money from your lover. It's the last thing you'd do.

If an officer in the army doesn't have any money now, you'd have to presume that he's going to spend the rest of his life taking money from you if you get together. It's only in the mind of scammers that they believe that just by saying they love you that they can get money. Anyone who thinks like that should be dropped whoever they are, but he isn't in the army, and he isn't in Afghanistan.

Has he ever told you what unit he's in ? In the UK soldiers are more likely to say what unit they're in rather than just they're in the UK army. UK soldiers are fiercely proud of the history of their unit and this promotes loyalty. They often have names like the 'Green Howards', the 'Red Berets' and 'Desert Rats' and any UK soldier would tell you what it is because he has committed his life to serving it.

CAR ADVERTS - If a car seller mentions escrow - he's scamming you Never ever for any reason pay anything until you have seen and inspected the vehicle

The more details you can post, the more chance there is of other victims finding them, so if you could post links to his badoo profile, and his Skype id and the telephone number (did it start +4470 by any chance?) it would help.

It is likely that he would want the money sent by Western Union or Moneygram rather than to a bank account as these are untraceable unreversable methods.

Please do not tell scammers that they are listed here - it will take them seconds to change their fake details and their new details will not be listed for any future victims to find.

Welcome Monica,

I'm glad that you were able to avoid this scam before things went very far. I just wanted to point out a few things to help in the future.

-All dating sites have scammers. There are a few sites out there that make serious efforts to eliminate them, but more often than not, those sites are very small. It is best to safeguard your personal info until you have gotten to know someone a little better.
-Badoo is loaded with scammers. Their "verification" is basically a joke--probably half the African scammers on the site are "verified." I have an anonymous profile on Badoo with no real information--it has attracted over 100 interested men. Of those, there have literally been 5 that might have been real. For the rest, between the profile and the first message, I already knew for certain it was an African scammer.
-Soldiers who are stationed overseas do not have time to hang out and chat on dating sites. They have much more serious things to worry about. The time they do have for communication is generally spent on their loved ones back home.
-Deployed soldiers in the US are typically deployed for a year or less. Then soldiers are sent home for a time before being redeployed. The target "at-home" time is 24 months, though it may be shorter based on military need. Britain has a very similar approach, though British troops are deployed for even shorter times. Deployments were previously 6 months, and it was major news when the military announced they were going to lengthen that to a TOTAL of 8 or 9 months: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22520249
In both countries, deployments are NOT extended by 24 months.
-The writing in the profile and chat tells me he scammer is African, not British.

As Alan has said, chances are high that he will request the money by an untraceable service like Western Union, rather than giving you bank account information. If he gives you a bank account, it is equally likely to belong to a mule (who could be accomplice or victim) and unlikely to trace to his real identity.

Hello Alan,

I feel so stupid that at first I believed him, his englisch was very good and we spoke about normal things at the beginning. He was very polite. He mentioned he would be with Royal Corps of Signals

All this sounded so trustworthy to me. You know I have had a very bad year in 2013 and reading these things made me feel good an comfortable. I needed to hear/read words like that.

And now I am just feeling like a real idiot, because even now I would love to hear from somebody, that he is true and not a scammer.

Mod Note the picture identified a US soldier in a US Military Uniform not a UK Uniform. (BW)

I think this was a mistake. Your answers here scare me. I do want to public the pictures

I am sorry to also say he is a scammer. I am sure 1000%. The last picture you posted with the Soldier holding the weapon say's it all.

Do not confront the scammer. He will only continue to lie to you.

Hello Byron,
why does the picture with the soldier tell it all? I do not understand.
Do you think it is dangerous to keep writing with him?
Do you think he can find me?
I will delete everything I posted here
