Information on romance scams and scammers.

I received a contact from Stefan Lars on ohmojo.com He claimed to have lost his family in an accident. I thought he was interesting and have spoke with him on Skype.

He says he is inheriting a lot of money. (I did not ask.) He claims to live in Germany and that his family was in the oil/gas business. He claims to be getting a huge inheritince. However, when we talk on Skype he won't let me see him.

He would like to meet in March at a hotel in my home country. He hasn't asked for too much personal info about me yet; but I am suspicious because he won't let me see him. I have spoken briefly to him on audio and he has a slight accent. His writing style is consistent with 2nd English; although he claims to be raised in Nashville as well as Germany.

He has not yet sent any independant pictures of himself and claims to have no social media. I am suspicious. He also has not directly answered questions related to where he grew up. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Scamwarners teacherajarn,

Do you have any emails from him? An email address? If so please post them. You could even post some messages he sent you. Just remember to remove your personal information. By chance if he is not a scammer we will remove this thread. You appear to be in the early stages of the scam.

The red flags I see are. All of these are typical of a Romance Scammer.

Please contacta moferatorstor if you have a question or information about this post.

Please do not tell the scammer he is posted here.

Hi teacherajarn, so glad you came here. I can only say that if you are suspicious, chances are the person is a scammer. My scammer asked for a webcam visit- magically my cam worked and his didn't. Scammers are constantly asking for webcam chats now so YOU can prove you are a real person while they fake theirs. Please be very careful. If you can get him to send an email, his location could be verified via the IP address.
Just so you know, they say they will come and visit but somehow never make it all the way to us. They talk of inheriting money, yet transporting it with them can become a hassle. I know- my scammer had a huge inheritance and got supposedly caught in customs bringing it into the US.
I know you really wish it was not true but we tell you these things so you can see the truth. I can tell you know it, but it's hard when you have to believe it. Remember, scammers are professional liars and they spin pretty tales that we want to believe. My scammer gave me a great one. But he never showed up. He never was in love with me. I was only his latest victim in a chase to get money. Please don't be one too.
