Romance Scam or Not??? [email protected]

Is this person real? On Match.com I have already been contacted by two people that were scammers and thanks to this scam warners site it was confirmed that they were indeed scammers.

Unfortunately, a link direct to match.com doesn't help, because match requires you to be a member and sign in to see the profile. Please copy/paste the info from the profile into your post.

However, even without seeing the profile--the number is not a cell phone number. It is a VOIP number, which means it is computer-based and can be answered from anywhere in the world. If this person has told you it is his cell number, then you already have your answer--it is a scammer.

Thanks for the compliment, you seem very positive and uplifting. I'd like to tell you more about me. my full name is Richard Rossi, I'm originally from Italy. I'm 56 now but I still act and feel like I'm 30..LOL!, Luckily I don't look too old. I try to be content with my life and I don't compare myself with others, nor do I compete to try and work my way up some social/materialistic pecking order. I have unique perspectives on life, and am constantly improving most (not all) aspects. I feel that experience will teach you 100x more than you'll ever learn in any school. I don't settle for things easily. Especially relationships. I have a few close friends and gobs of acquaintances. I'm the perfect height. I'd rather be honest and rude, than phony and cordial. Although there are times it's best to say nothing if you cannot say something nice.

About my family, I'm the only one from my parents and I have two nephews who live in Spain and few cousins some live in US but we normally don't see each other because they live in New Orleans. and we always meet every time on December for the family reunion anniversary. I studied in UK and came to US in 1990. I moved here in US and decided to build my career and had my PHD in Civil Engineering courses to learn more on Building construction. I have a son Antonio, he use to live with me but he is now working in Canada.

Live theater is fun but it's been a while since I've had someone to share it with. Everyone enjoys a great movies, me as well. Art and music festivals are always fun and a great place to people watch. I'm fun and funny, faithful and honest, romantic and sexy, especially when I get that look in my eye. I'm more city than country and have Midwestern values. I have a fantastic career, and really enjoy what I do. I play a little golf but very badly. I think a guy should open a door for a woman and the woman should wait for him to do so. On the other hand I don't think it's just the guy who must reach out and make contact. Maybe 50, 60 years ago but come on it's 2014 ladies! Most of my photos are from summer 2013' and I plan to post a few more. I sing and dance like nobodies business. I mean with my voice and moves I won't earn a nickle but I enjoy doing both, though the dancing is far less tragic.

May I ask...how can y'all tell it is a scammer? This is third one since I joined Match.com. I am so frustrated.

The phone number is the big give away - as Dotti said, it is a VoIP number, but more importantly that that, it is a VoIP number with an Atlanta area code. A real person in Atlanta would not need a VoIP number. He's picked his location based on where his area code shows him to be.

Romance scamming is a big business. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that if you are over 40 and on a dating site, you will be a prime target for scammers. (If you are under 40, you will still be a target for some scammers, but not quite as many.) The number of fake profiles set up for the sole purpose of scamming is astronomical. I have a (fake) profile on a popular dating site that I use to look up scammer information. I left my computer logged in yesterday while I was gone, and I came home to 10 new messages. Every one of them was from an African scammer posing as a British or American man.

There are legitimate people on dating sites, but the reality is that you usually have to wade through a pool of scammers to find them.

Since something similar happened recently to me, could I ask, how can you tell a number is a VoIP number? I tried Google but didn't get any info.
