Welcome here lydburylil.

If this Robert Winters asked you to contact an officer to arrange a leave for him, and that officer told you to fill in some forms, and asked you to pay an amount of money to get this Robert on leave, then yes, you are definatly being scammed. Whatever they will say, do not send them money. American soldiers have to arrange their leave themselfs, it's impossible that an outsider can arrange that. It just doesn't work that way. If you click on this link here: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6529 you can find information about military scams.

Being a victim doesn't mean you stand alone. We're here to help you.

thankyou for your reply
i had an inclination in the back of my mind about him but just wanted someone out there to say i am right
he met me through the dating site friends reunited supposedly based here in the uk Alconbury
and has then had to be deployed to afghan on April 15 2010
i was registered onto a "military logbook" so that we could keep in touch he did tell me things which came up on the news 24 hours later so i was in 2 minds wether he was or not
but as soon as i recieved this form with a deployment fee i knew then something was wrong... in the meantime in my unknown i registered another gentleman friend of his with a datin site lovehorse.co.uk this so called soldier name is greg jordan, [email protected] so will obviously be the next one to start the scam
though we have reported him to the site in foresite
i am glad that no money has passed hands thankfully

Welcome to Scamwarners lydburylil.

I have no doubt that you are now in contact with another (or possibly) the same scammer using a different fake name/mail address.

My advice would be to cease all contact and be watchful for other scam attempts.

Thank you for posting this information - it will alert and save others from being scammed.

If you have any questions or concerns or further information please post - we will help you all we can.

Welcome lydburylil,

I am glad that you recognized the scammers before you lost any money! Sadly, the vast majority of "American soldiers" on dating sites are characters created by African scammers.

As you should now realize, there will never be a situation in which you can apply for leave for an American soldier, so anyone involved in these requests is going to be a scammer. You should also know that there are no fees required for leave, and soldiers do not need satellite phones to keep in touch with the outside world (and legitimate sat phone companies do not take payments by money transfer).

If you can post any more information you have--emails with full headers (especially early ones and money requests, which are likely scripts), phone numbers used, etc. it can help prevent even more scams and possibly help us to identify the real location of these scammers. I would also like some more info about the "military logbook" you were signed up for, so we can check that out a little more thoroughly. If you can post more info here or send via PM that would be great. If you do post emails, etc. please be sure to remove your personal details before posting.
