It's good that you found us before it's too late. Reading through this post, and your other post in the romance scam section, i believe you are writing to a scammer. When i do a bit of research and google parts of his email to you, i get several hits. This bit here:

Could you post the full headers of one of his emails here? with that we can possibly locate the scammer. If you don't know how to get the headers, just ask.

There are also other clues in the letter:

1. He is a widower with a four year old daughter. Of course genuine men can be widowers with young children, but scammers particularly like to pretend to be the lone parent of a child. They hope that this will convince you that they are a warm nurturing person, and also this invented child could come in very useful later, if the scammer wants to pretend that an accident has happened to her, and he needs money to pay hospital bills and save her life.

2. His job takes him 'all over the world'. This gives him the excuse to pretend to travel to wherever he is really located (probably in West Africa), so that when misfortune strikes (as it will), he can ask for money to be sent there.

3. The tone of the email is over-enthusiastic: over-enthusiastic in presenting himself as the ideal partner, and over-enthusiastic in being interested in you - at such an early stage of communication. Again, of course there are very enthusiastic people in the world, but combined with the other clues above, this over-enthusiasm is suspect.

4. There are also some grammar and spelling mistakes that you would not expect an American man to make. Some of the grammar is typical of a West African writer. This may not be noticable to someone who is not a native English speaker, but it is noticeable to myself.

I'm glad you were suspicious about this email.

As Chris already said, it has all the characteristics of a romance scam, even from this one letter. The two together remove any possible doubt.

Rather than copy a whole poem or love letter, this person merely copied lines from assorted love letters and poems (often from lovingyou.com or similar sites) and mixed them with his own writing. The result is a writing style that is abnormal, alternating between good and bad, because the copied lines are in correct English, and his own writing is atrocious, and contains typical mistakes of an African writer (though I imagine he claims to be from the US or UK).


Since I see from the 2nd letter you posted that he claims to be from UK, I will hazard a guess that if he gave you a phone number, it starts with 44-70? Those numbers are redirect numbers--so the call will appear to be going to UK, while it is actually being rerouted to his cellphone, most likely in Africa or Malaysia (where several African romance scammers are currently located).

Could you please post more information about this scammer, including his email, any phone numbers he has given you, and his early emails? Those will help to prevent others becoming victim.

It could be the same one, or one who is copying scripts used by other scammers.

I retraced the IP-adress and I have to say it is really a server in Sunnyvale/California.
I`m still in contact with him and I didn´t ask where he lives in the US.

When an IP address traces to Sunnyvale then the real IP address has been hidden. Sunnyvale is Yahoo's headquarters. That means that the email is showing yahoo's location, not his. Often, but not always, when you see the sunnyvale location, you will see NNFMP somewhere in the headers, which means that a special mass-mailing protocol was used.

Deniz, if you are still in contact with this scammer, then i advice you to stop writing to him and delete every incoming email from him. You said he's also writing with a hotmail account. Could you post the headers of the emails send from that account here? It's possible we can trace him then.

I have found a new profile on the same single-site. I think it is the same scammer, because it is the same story, except that his daughter was alive before. I try to contact him, because I can do the same as scammers do. I use another profile with another name.....lol..... Now his name is "Marcus Winston".
