Please post his emails (preferably with headers, as other victims may be looking for his address). We can easily tell West African writing (a lot of scammers playing fake soldiers are in Africa) from American or British writing.

If he's on active duty and found you on a dating site or any sort of Internet hangout, he is fake. If he is American and does not have an address ending in .mil, he is fake.

Please post his email address, including the complete header ( see the link at the bottom of my post if you don't know how to reveal complete headers). Post his first few emails to you ( remove your personal information before posting the emails or headers).

Welcome to Scamwarners TrishLippy,

You have not posted enough information for us to say with 100%. With that said he is most likely a scammer. Deployed soldiers do not have the time to be on dating sites, chat or Facebook messaging internet strangers.

If he ask for money for any reason he is a scammer. If he asked for anything mailed to him and its not a Military address he is a scammer.

Your gut say the ID is fake. Your gut instinct is correct. Military personnel would not send a copy of their ID to an internet friend. Only scammers with fake ID's do.

Please post a couple of his emails to you and his email address. If by chance he is not a scammer we will remove the thread.

He contacted me on a social site and then we used instant messenger. His syntax is off. And refused to give me an APO. Plus his i.d. lists his pay grade as of3. I have since deleted him.

It just makes me angry that people use pictures of real soldiers. Is there a way to notify the soldier that his pics are being used in a scam?

The US military has published warnings on the subject of these scams. Many soldiers are already aware of the use of their photos. The problem is--once the scammers have saved the photos, there is no way for the soldier to take them back.

In general, we discourage trying to locate and speak to the soldiers in the photos, as many see it as an unwelcome invasion of their privacy, and others only become frustrated because they cannot stop it.

Sadly, some soldiers (or their families) are even more against being contacted, as they have been placed in an uncomfortable situation (or on occasion been harassed) by victims who could not accept that they were not really talking to the person in the photos, or who tried to transfer the feelings they had for the scammer to them.

Basically he has no Military mailing address. Others issues we will not point out.
And refused to give me an APO. Plus his i.d. lists his pay grade as of3.
