Information on romance scams and scammers.

Hello,
I need your help with this.
Has anyone been contacted by Major General Walter L. Stewart, Jr, a US four-star Officer (retired)? He says that he is working with UN-Iraq. I was contacted by him via Skype and says that he has adopted son in Ghana. This retired Major General is a very influential officer in the USA, based on all the Internet-published documents I have read. He is usually contacted by the media to ask for his opinions. However, i wonder if this is also a case of identity theft. The picture he uses in both Skype and Yahoo profiles is the official photo posted in his biography at the National Guard Bureau website.
He says that for UN security reasons he cannot use cams, mics, or give personal information. So I haven't seen him.
He has asked me to send money to pay his adopted son (Omene Authentic tel. 00233247125556)'s boarding school in Ghana; he also says that he has a 27-year-old son studying Law in London. I was asked to phone (00233277278126) his son's English Teacher, Mr. Kofi Nana, to talk about a school fee's debt. They also have a friend in Ghana Johnbull Patrick.
He's very romantic and his mails and chats are full of love poems.
His Skype profile states "i am retired General Walter L. Stewart, Jr, from Pennsylvania, working under United Nation-Iraq because of my past experience, divorced,,,"
In his Yahoo profile, he states that he is from New York, NY.
He's DOB is November 02, 1950, though at the beginning he told me he birthday was October 10.
His email accounts are <[email protected]> and <[email protected]>. His Skype is general.walter.l.stewart.jr. His Yahoo messenger ID is sgenwalter.
He asked me to give my best friend the email of a good friend of his, retired Major General Joseph Taluto. Skype user mgjosephtaluto; email [email protected]. My friend and I have felt that General Stewart may also use Taluto's identity.
Thanks for all your help.

Since I am new here, I don't know where to paste the code of one of his long list of emails. Please tell me how to post it.

Welcome Honey,

Let's get one thing out of the way. IT"S ABSOLUTELY 100% SCAM.

I will follow up with more information in the morning, but even without the many warning signs in what you posted, I can tell you that immediately, because the real General and his wife Sheila are currently living in Pennsylvania.

It's not what is normally meant by identity theft honey14, as anyone can be an imposter and you could say that I'm one, using the name of an old fictional US comedy character, but I'm not using the name to attempt to scam money off people. I do it because scammers have threatened my life, but that's no concern.

It's hard, or impossible, for someone to keep their identity safe, and internet scammers pick photos of models up off the net all the time to use in scams, and it's vitually impossible to stop them.

Thankfully this scam doesn't make sense, so it's not going to do much harm.

Yesterday I post a query about Major Gen. Walter L. Stewart, Jr., in which I gave all the information I have about him and his son (Scammering or identity theft?).

I would like you to tell me if the three emails I am including with th corresponding code were sent by the same individual. The one using Johnbull's address was supposedly sent by Omene Authentic, but he was asked to open another email account of his own, so I am also sending one of his emails. The othe email was sent by Major Gen. Walter L. Stewart, Jr., Omene's adopted father.

Darling wife,

I was sleeping, my hand was searching for you, but you were not there. I turned my head, I opened my eyes slightly and saw you fixing your new toy, the computer. I just smiled. It would be so typical of me to do. I didn't know that you saw me blinking, getting glimpses of you. I turned my head to the other side and slightly fell right back to sleep. Within minutes, I felt you beside me wearing your robe. I cuddled right into you, like two spoons against eachother. This may just be memories, but I still wake up at times thinking of that morning smile when you read my mind.I LOVE YOU

If you need me to repeat thedetails please let me know. By the way is there any possibility I can get the email of real Major Gen. Walter L. Stewart, Jr.?
Thanks a lot
Honey14

I have removed the email coding from this post, what was posted is unable to give us any useful information, the emails and email addresses however will so I prefer to make them as prominent as possible - Ralph

Hello, Honey14 & welcome here :D

Sadly, the scripting you have posted is not the headers, but page source info. Please let us know which email program you use (Gmail, Hotmail etc) & we can help you with finding the headers - which will help to say where the email originated!

From what you have posted:
I was sleeping, my hand was searching for you, but you were not there. I turned my head, I opened my eyes slightly

is stolen from Here

Also, using a 'child' to write, call you mum - but still be asking for money (laptop etc) is another typical scammer trick.

It is unlikely that Maj General Stewart's email address is public knowledge, but:
Major General Walter Stewart, a two-star commander of the 28th division of the Pennsylvania National Guard,
is the most up-to-date info I can find about him (from Here)
by Dotti Sun Jun 13, 2010 12:25 pm
First of all, I wanted to let you know that I removed the post with the source code. Due to the length, some readers may miss additional posts in the thread, and I believe when you posted the source code, what you were actually intending to post was the headers.

If this scammer is not hiding behind a proxy, the full headers may give us his actual location (which will most likely be Ghana in this situation, since that is where the fake adopted son is supposed to be). In order to tell you how to get the full headers, we will need to know what you are using to check your email (e.g. yahoo, hotmail, outlook). If you could get those full headers (delete your own name and email address from them first) and post them here we can help you with that. It will also help other victims if you post some of his emails to you--scammers don't limit himself to one victim, and chances are this scammer is trying to get money from other women right now using the same script, even if he is using a different name.

This is not identity theft in the normal sense of the word. A normal identity thief has access to the victim's financial information--and will steal from the victim's credit cards and/or bank accounts, or will open new lines of credit in the victim's name. This scammer is not doing that--he has no access to the General's finances, and does not have any information about the General that is not available online (though he may show you a fake passport or ID in his name--but it will be a photoshop creation, using the same photos, and will not be a quality to fool any official). All he has done is pull the General's name and photo off a website, and opened one or more profiles/emails pretending to be him. He is just using the name to make himself appear to be more real and honest.

As I already stated, some digging shows the real general is living in Pennsylvania with his wife.

Here are several other flags/points that show he is a scammer.

-says that he has adopted son in Ghana. This is a setup for (a) you sending money to Ghana and (b) why he will have to travel there later. There is no evidence this is true.

-
The picture he uses in both Skype and Yahoo profiles is the official photo posted in his biography at the National Guard Bureau website. He says that for UN security reasons he cannot use cams, mics or give personal information.
The real reason is much simpler--he has no other photos or video of the real man to provide.
-
He has asked me to send money to pay his adopted son (Omene Authentic tel. 00233247125556)'s boarding school in Ghana
The man is a General, politician who has the money to make significant political contributions (publicly listed) and has owned a business. There is no reason he should have to ask a stranger for money. And if he gave you the usual BS about not being to be able to access bank accounts, we hear this al the time. The simple truth is that if he were working with the UN, the UN would have made sure he had access to his money
He's very romantic and his mails and chats are full of love poems.
Textbook scammer here. I will go out on a limb and say that he probably uses terms of endearment excessively too.
His Skype profile states "i am retired General Walter L. Stewart, Jr, from Pennsylvania, working under United Nation-Iraq because of my past experience, divorced,,,"
In his Yahoo profile, he states that he is from New York, NY.
Typical scammer, multiple profiles with different details.
He asked me to give my best friend the email of a good friend of his, retired Major General Joseph Taluto. Skype user mgjosephtaluto; email [email protected]. My friend and I have felt that General Stewart may also use Taluto's identity.

You are probably right that the same man is playing both characters.

I have merged the two threads regarding this scammer to keep all of the information in one place. As I said, there is no doubt this is a scammer. You are correct in thinking that all 3 emails were most likely written by the same person (though it is possible that scammer accomplices are involved). With the full headers, we can give a little more info, but everything about this whole correspondence tells us this is a scammer, including the "son" calling you "mum," which is a standard scammer ploy when trying to get money.

Unfortunately I haven't had any email contact with them via Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail. I chat with them via Skype, Yahoo Messenger or, less ferquently, Hotmail. but all emails have been sent to my official account which is a state server provider (RACSA) from my country. So I don't know hot to get the header or if you could help me get it.
by Crispy Duck Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:18 pm
If you have an email in your Hotmail account, you can view headers as follows:

To see the full email including all header lines in Windows Live Hotmail:

* Click on the desired message in the list with the right mouse button. Do NOT open the email.
* Select View source from the menu.

Then just copy & paste the header into a post here.

RACSA must use an email program - perhaps it is something like Ms Outlook or Outlook Express?
by Ralph Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:54 pm
Hi Honey,

If you do happen to be using outlook express to receive your emails, (most work email systems seem to use outlook), this information may help in finding the headers.

How to Show Full Headers in Outlook Express

To view full Internet headers in Outlook Express 4,5 and 6:

With the keyboard:
CTRL-F3 (Message Source Window)
CTRL-A (select all)
CTRL-C (copy)
ALT-F4 (close)

Or, with the mouse:
Double-Click the e-mail message to open it in its own window
Click the File menu
Click Properties
Click the "Details" tab
Click "Message Source"
Copy and paste everything from this window

The others have already mentioned but to back up what they have said, there is no doubt that this person is a scammer, everybody he has introduced you to and everything he has told you are lies designed to steal money from you.

I am sorry, but it is definately a scammer.

With the headers we may be able to confirm where he is and we may be able to show that all the emails were sent from the same place, either way, the outcome is the same

I could manage his sending me an email to Yahoo. I hope this is the header. I would really appreciate the origin of this email (country).

This has been sent from the same location as the previous mail; Ghana, Accra. :)

Account inactive - messages are not being monitored
by Ralph Tue Jun 15, 2010 4:18 am
Honey, just out of curiosity, both of these emails were sent from the same email address from the exact same location in Ghana.

Was there a reason to suspect they would be different? Did Walter tell you he had travelled between one email to the next for instance?
