Six men and one woman based in and around London were arrested in what police describe as ''large scale fraud linked to UK extremists travelling to Syria''

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Officers are investigating a large scale fraud linked to UK extremists travelling to Syria.

“The arrests today form part of an ongoing fraud investigation, whereby unsuspecting vulnerable and elderly victims are ‘cold called’ on their home phone by a suspect impersonating a police officer.

Interestingly I came across this earlier news report from a couple of months or so ago but I cannot tell whether or not it's different report or connected. I did come across another and I'll try to find it this evening.

Terror police arrest two men linked to ISIS fraud targeting elderly Britons

Victims are then tricked into transferring money to an account under the control of the suspect, with one elderly victim losing around £150,000.

Obviously once a fraud has any hint of a terrorist connection it becomes a matter for the anti-terrorist police.

My pleasure CumminsDslPwr.

Having a Heckler & Koch shoved up your nose as anti-terrorist police burst through the front door is quite a powerful deterrent, not that I have seen any report that this is what happened.

I've never been in any doubt that a small proportion of frauds fund terrorism. Not that we need encouragement to do what we do, this is quite an incentive.

'Bank of terror' gang accused of cold-calling scam that rinsed pensioners' accounts to fund jihadis' journeys to Syria to fight with Isis extremists

A pertinent quote for all Scamwarners from the prosecutor

Terrorism overall takes a new form in 2015, it's not on the battlefield... This fraud, this financing terrorism, is on an industrial scale... It is sophisticated, it is a criminal network. This is a threat to the national security of this country
Prosecutor Edward Aydin

I don't know whether or not this news report is related, but it does appear to have some similarities and some interesting details.
