In all, nine defendants have been convicted of taking part in the fraud, which was uncovered by counter-terrorism police after a separate terror probe traced suspicious transfers paid into the bank account of a person who is now in Syria.
Earlier this year Dorset Police serious crime squad detectives said there may be a link between the telephone conmen and terror group Isis.
Their victims, who had an average age of 83, were in Dorset as well as Cornwall, Devon, Bedfordshire, London and Kent. Police believe more than £1 million was stolen.
One victim, a 76-year-old woman from Poole, was defrauded of more than £135,000. Another, who had just been diagnosed with cancer, was told to miss a doctor's appointment in order to withdraw money from the bank.
"Their despicable actions have had a terrible and devastating impact on their victims, with some losing their life savings. The targeting of vulnerable men and women in their 80s and 90s is quite simply beyond belief.
"This was a scam on a huge national scale detected by specialist financial investigators who have stopped the targeting of even more victims."
