A student journalist is currently in the process of gathering information and interested interviewees on the subject of scams, scambaiting and the effect scams have on their victims.

This documentary has a great potential to heighten awareness of scams in the community which will be a huge help to our work in education and preventing people from being scammed.

The person who is gathering this information and who will be doing the reporting has been thoroughly checked out to ensure she is exactly who she claims to be and full anonymity has been assured.

Below is a snippet of what she has to say;

I wanted to put a post up as I am currently in the process of researching a Documentary I will be making about 419 Scambaiting and victims of 419 Scams. This is a 3rd Year University Project conducted at University of Leeds, UK. This is my final and biggest project I will be making and wonder if anyone would feel comfortable enough to speak about their experiences of 419 Scams. The purpose of the Documentary is to educate and inform others who are unaware or ill informed about the various types of 419 Scams and how scambaiters are fighting back on our behalf.

If you have fallen victim or have a story to tell I would like to hear your story/experience.

I would like to add that I am aware of the importance of anonymity and therefore you do not have to disclose real names even if you do wish to take part, real names will not be featured.

The Documentary will be 30 mins in length and is submitted as an equivalent to a dissertation.
This offer is open to anyone wishing to take part.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from you.

For those willing to make themselves available for an interview, they will need to be near or able to get to The areas of Leeds, West Yorkshire or Bath areas.

Anybody from other areas or who is not comfortable with an interview but would still like to help, she is also interested in the stories and thoughts of those who have been scammed in order to help with the content.

For those who would like more information, I would be happy to pass on any questions to the journalist and provide contact information to those who would like to get in touch.

Hi Samantha,

Welcome to Scamwarners.

I am sorry to hear you have been the victim of a romance scammer, romance scammers are widely regarded as the worst kind of scammer there is, breaking peoples hearts while they steal their money, unfortunately the scammers have absolutely no regard for the lives they ruin or the hurt they cause.

You may well benefit by taking a look through this thread viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3607

It will explain many of the common signs of a romance scammer and may help you to understand the tricks used to lure you in and it will hopefully prevent you from ever being the victim of a scam again.

If you do have interest in getting in touch with the reporter please send me an email to the address in my signature line and I can get you in touch.

If you haven't already done so you can post (or forward to me to post) the emails and details from the scammer which will help prevent others from being scammed by the same scammer

If you have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask

Thanks for your reply. The details of the person that scammed me are on the net 'andrew patterson', but dont seem to be on this site. In an effort to rid this from my life I recently deleted everything, but emails I got were very similiar to the ones published, inc photos and forms used.

Thankfully I now know the signs and won't let it happen again. I have since reported another scammer to the dating website, and they withdrew his details.
