CALGARY- Calgary RCMP's commercial crime unit has charged nine people for their alleged involvement in a cross-border telemarketing scam.
Ibrahim Daud, 45, Kingsley Chimela Odoemena, 34, Jegbefumere Bone Albert, 28, and Nygil Thomas Osayande, 23 have all been arrested for their involvement in the scam.
RCMP have issued Canada-wide arrest warrants for five Calgarians; Albert Valentine Onolunose, 29, Kabiru Julius Odion, 30, Alysia Dawn Mayert, 30, Darlynton Oseah Omolene, 33 and Francis Amankwaa, 27.
Each of the nine individuals have been charged with 29 counts each for various violations of the Criminal Code.
Although the RCMP is not aware of any victims in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada they believe the suspects contacted the victims by letter or phone and told them they had won a lottery but were required to pay taxes and lawyer fees to claim their money. The estimated loss to victims is estimated at more than $3 million.
