Hey,
I'm pretty new to here but I have been heaing on the news recently a recent spate of "scareware" scams going about. Im sure many of you are familliar with the popup windows users often get that pretend to be anti-virus software that "scan" your computer and report problems. They then get you to download their "anti virus" software which in reality is just malware that can cause furthur problems, including online identity theft and computer malfunction.
Popup windows (that come up in your Internet browser window) cannot access files stored on the host hard drive for security reasons, so have no way of knowing if you have problems.
The overriding advice is don't trust any virus reporting software other than the antivirus software on your computer. (e.g. Norton, McAfee, AVG)
One program I had problems with a time ago was winantiviruspro, a very annoying program.
The link to the story I heard is here-

Be careful.
