Sakawa is a widespread practice from Ghana combining modern internet-based fraud practices with traditional religious rituals. The term Sakawa initially referred to specific online scams but has since broadened to include all types of online frauds mainly targeting foreigners.
Many internet scammers from nigeria are called Yahoo Boys! In ghana, they are referred to as Sakawa Boys and some of them are spiritual. So much so, some use 'magic' rings when typing on keyboards, or asked to bring the menstrual blood of their girlfriends so they can become successful internet fraudsters.
