Online vehicle fraud is costing this country over £1.6million per year, with an average loss in excess of £1,400 per victim.

- The highest loss reported by an individual is £70,000
- The majority (27%) of victims are aged between 21-30 years old

Apart from being woefully late in recognising the crime, and hopelessly underestimating the scale and value of fraud taking place, it's nice that some official body in the UK has actually noticed that the crime is taking place.

Presumably their suggestion to report the crime to Action Fraud is why the crime has gone unnoticed and unaddressed for so long.

Last night I reported about 20 fraudulent adverts, and I'm not a prolific ad reporter, which converts to approximately £200,000 of vehicles which can be sold multiple times. Potentially the recorded crime could be as much as several hundred times the value that the authorities admit.
